We arrived at the hotel at 5.50pm to be told dinner was served at 6.30 prompt we were abit surprised but after along day just wanted to go and have a shower and rest before eating. We were also told breakfast was only served until 9am on the Sunday.
Our room was small but reasonably clean looking over the the park and the flat roof of the hotel. Also the TV repception was very poor and the TV was old, there were also no lampshades on the wall lights and only one table at the side of the bed with one lamp and as long as you wedged the shade agaist the wall it was OK
When entering the bathroom the lid of the bin was missing and when I tried to run a bath the water was cold, thinking that this could be because it was peak time we managed a quick wash ansd proceeded down to dinner to be met by a piper who led us into the dining room. As a couple we were seated at a table in the corner and the waiting staff were very sweet.
Our meal however WAS NOT
STARTER
A dubious fruit salad, and pea soup (well thats what they said it was) and a very hard roll, my husband asked if there was an alternative and was given an even bigger bowl of the fruit salad.
Main course
A cold buffett of three meats and fish and a very dubious looking mushroom pasta with salad. and boiled new potatoes (did not eat any the meat was dry and seemed to have been on the tray awhile and was not going to tempt fate with the fish although it looked ok)
Dessert
A selection of trifle, eves pudding and other cakes (best bit of the meal) oh and this time fresh fruit salad
The evening entertainment was a guy playing and I think they said singing to an organ.
We returned to our room which by this time although we had turned the radiator off was stifling so we tried to open the window to find it was nailed shut, this I feel was a fire hazzard although outside our room was the fire escape I still did not feel safe.
I then tried running a bath to find the water was still cold this we reported to reception who told us to give it another 1/2hr by this time it was already10pm and the room was even more stifling and beginning to make us feel ill so we ended up with the door wedged open. Nobody from reception came to check the water or ask if the problem was sorted, we eventually fell asleep,to be woken by the noisy heating system and still no hot water I had to boil the kettle to wash.We again reported this to reception and a gentleman came to the room not sure what he did but the water was warm when we returned from breakfast although by this time all we wanted to do was get out.
We went down for breakfast and were presented with the smallest glass of juice ever, the breakfast was buffett style and luke warm I asked for a freshly fried egg and was told by the waitress that the ones on the plate were fresh although these were cold and some were still jellified.YUK
I did make my feelings known at reception and was asked to fill out a form asking had I enjoyed my stay ??????????????????
When we went down stairs to return the hairdryer that we had to pay £10.00 deposit for although they were fully aware of our complaints and concerns we were not given any apology just have a nice day.
This hotel is very tired and I have now read the previous reviews and managers comments about the refurbisment none of which were evident. The gardens were also none existant or if they were they were hiding.
Also most of the guest were alot older than ourselves although we are 56 and touching 60.
Would I recommend this hotel NO

stayed for xmas with my 87 yr old mother...the hotel was hugely disappointing and our room shabby...6 hangers between 2 people, curtains hanging off the rails...no hairdryer, trouser press or shelves for toiletries.PLENTY of scalding hot water though...even out of the COLD tap! !!!! The waiting staff were delightful even when delivering luke warm food....
Even the foto of the hotel is a con.....the hotel fronts the main high street in Kingussie and at the back is a large car park....never found the extensive gardens shown in the brochure foto...according to a local shopkeeper the foto was artfully taken to include some gardens across the road....who knows...I hate being conned...and...the manager is Ricky Gervais between acting jobs

We stayed for the Christmas 2010 break. Our room was very nice and clean although a little dated with a comfortable 4 poster bed. The TV only had the main 5 channels however which proved to be annoying as we felt that we had to spend much of our 4 day stay in our room. Why? Well, this is certainly a hotel for OAP's. The Manager obviously knew this and geared the entertainment towards them.
The food however was nice and the foreign servers were all very hospitable. The reception staff were friendly.
Would I stay in this hotel again...well no...certainly not at Christmas...maybe when I get to 65 years plus and that's not for another 20 years!!!

This was our second visit this year having been there back in May 2010-nothing had improved in the interim despite complaining to the mgt and the tour operator back in Yorkshire.Just not 'fit for purpose'-too many overseas staff with little to no understanding of English (language)-being instructed by indigenous staff with heavy scottish accents and local words-recipe for disaster and it happened on many occasion with things like pack lunch orders, dinner orders, simple drinks order at the table and bar were just a nightmare.-very little patience with senior citzen guests. Bar prices over the top far too much mark up- not VFM
Tired equipment and rooms and decor-needs updating and a refit.

It is disapointing to read your review and that you feel there have been no improvements since your previous visit. I arrived as General Manager at the beginning of September 2010. We are in the process of a 2 year re-decoration program throughout the hotel with all televisions being replaced with Flat Screen digital Televisions. To date we have completed a third of the bedrooms with the remainder due for completion by January 2012. All public areas are also being refurbished as an ongoing task and we hope to have them completed by December 2011.
With regard to the language problem you encountered with some of the staff. I can only apologise for this and assure you of their best intentions at all times. Many of our front of house staff are from fellow European countries. They all have a reasonable level of understanding of the English language, both spoken and written. However, there are times when colloquial terms and area dialects are used that they have not encountered previously, then misunderstandings occur. We do our best to counter this and the staff learn from these experiences. English classes are run every week for the staff to help them improve their English with an SVQ exam and qualification at the end of the period.
I can assure you that we are constantly striving to improve the service we offer and invite suggestions and constructive criticism to help us achieve this. Thank you for taking the time to write this review and I trust that you will visit us again in the future.
