If you are looking for a beautiful cottage to get aways from it all then this really is perfection. The cottage is lush, with underfloor heating in the kitchen and bathroom, a lovely woodburningnatove in the livingroom, and even Netflix on the telly if you get stuck in and fancy a film. The trains going past didn't disturb on them slightest (quite the opposite, they were a lovely addition to the feel of the place).
There are a few things to be aware of:
- Kingussie has no taxi service. It stopped running very recently. I had phoned the next nearest taxi service the day before and was told that they would book from Kingussie train station to the cottage without extra costs and was strongly assured that there was "no problem" and that we can call them "any time 24/7" with no pre-booking necessary. However, on the day when I called the same number it was a completely different story - first saying that to pick us up they would charge the taxi from Aviemore, then that they couldn't be bothered doing it right now and would leave Aviemore an hour later, then changing story to say that they don't do pickups from Kingussie. The locals were super friendly and offered to ask about to see if they could find someone to run us along the road (we couldn't walk as we were travelling with someone who was pregnant), and we considered hitchhiking. Thankfully the local school bus runs straight from the bus stop outside the Gullies Rest to the door of the cottage. That said, if you plan to leave the car at home do try look up this bus as it only runs once/day.
- FAO strict vegans: there are sheepskin rugs.
This is a beautifully decorated cottage in a beautiful part of the world. Although, the railway runs right beside the house, it isn't very busy with about two trains per hour and they don't run through the night so we didn't find it to be a problem and actually enjoyed the trains going past as it's quite unusual. There's lots to do and see nearby and the cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly need. We would highly recommend.
This is a lovely cottage just outside Lynchat near Kingussie. It is warm, quite, clean and has all the mod cons for a perfect getaway. Close to the railway but the trains hardly disturb you as they're few and far between. The cows and geese in the field close by we're a perfect addition and loved by our older kids.
Wanting to find somewhere special to stay whilst enjoying a short break to the Scottish Highlands, this was the perfect cottage to call home.
The cottage has a lovely garden with a fantastic fire pit and wooden deck to enjoy the beautiful scenery from. The nearest neighbors being the sheep in the fields surrounding, it is private and peaceful, we ended up spending far more time at the cottage than we had initially planned, we felt so relaxed and you can explore so much straight from the front door.
Inside the cottage is beautifully decorated- a perfect mix of old vintage and contemporary furniture and fixings. All the mod cons available, we wanted for nothing. The cottage was very warm and comfortable, especially when enjoying a glass of wine by the wood burning stove. Lots of sweet touches, many books about the local area, some classic fiction as well as some games to play in the evening. Especially appreciated the local newspaper alongside the day's newspaper awaiting us on the coffee table.
Great service also, even when booking, the friendly owners were happy to answer my questions and make recommendations on what to see and do in the local area. Having come to learn about the cottage through having visited their excellent pub and restaurant in Aviemore, I had high expectations and they were far exceeded. Looking forward to our next visit in the summer!
Side note, although it is near to the railway after the first train passing, it didn't disturb us at all.
A birthday treat, we spent three nights here. The cottage is just lovely and decorated to a high standard. Although close to the railway line, we were not disturbed when trains passed. The cottage is made of strong stuff!
We spent the weekend walking around the beautiful country side, eating local produce and lighting fires!! All in all a very relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings.
