“Excellent Dining Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 November 2013

On a recent short break in Ilfracombe it was recommended that we dine at Clarets and were advised that booking was necessary. However, when we called into the restaurant they fitted us in there and then. We were not disappointed. Whilst the restaurant is relatively small the ambiance is excellent and you don't feel as though you are sitting on top of other diners. My slow cooked belly pork was to die for and my husband (a farmer) said his rack of lamb was the best he'd ever tasted. If in Ilfracombe make sure you visit this retaurant. Not cheap but excellent value for money.

“Truly Exceptional”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 November 2013

The restaurant is a relatively small and family run but the menu is extensive. The menu is exceptionally good and in the main sourced locally; local beef, lamb, fish, cheese etc. Everything was cooked to perfection and the service first class! Good wine selection at sensible prices.
Reservations essentials and usually closed during the early part of the week.

“Cosy, lovely food and polite service”

Wonderful scallops and crab. Polite and very friendly service with no hurry to leave even after 11pm. The only negative was the remaining coffees coming 5 mins after the first coffees. Would go again.

“Tucked away Get there early”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 November 2013

Four of us dined for my parents' anniversary/mum's birthday. We all had different starters and mains and every one was delicious. My father is still raving about his crab thermidor, my husband had flavoursome lamb cutlets, mum had a huge juicy plaice and my medallions of beef were plate-lickingly good. Everything is made from scratch with care. The young waiters were polite and charming. My only comment is get there earlier rather than later as things were starting to run out on the menu and when it's gone, it's gone.
It's tucked away location means it's full of locals rather than tourists.

“Amazing food, service and ambience!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 November 2013

Having looked through the window several times we decided to go along for a meal at Clarets. The wine menu was informative and proved to be spot on, we had a lovely bottle of South African White. The food was amazing, we loved our starters, mains and almost had to have three puddings for two people. We both opted for a Sea Bass main and thoroughly enjoyed the vegetable sides. Overall a wonderful experience and would thoroughly recommend.
