“Brilliant Stay”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

We stayed for a week in August and we had a lovely stay. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable-breakfast was delicious! Locality was very good, next to shops, restaurants and harbour. We would certainly recommend The Harbour Lights Guesthouse. Thank you to Nick and Ruth!

Was made most welcomed by Nick at the reception desk, nice friendly smile, offering to take our bags up to our room, while we parked the car.Twin room rather small, but comfortable and clean. We decided to eat in house, which I would say was a very good choice!!!! I had home made crab cakes which were lovely, and the cheese board for afters, which had a good choice of cheeses&crackers, as my husband had Steak, which melted in ur mouth, and as he said the best bread pudding hes ever had for his desert, all served with a smile. The full english is a must, really sets you up for the day!!!!Would go back again, Thank you Steve,Ruth&Nick for making us welcome. Many thanks Tom&Sue

We stayed at The Harbour Lights Guesthouse 4-6 August - a short getaway from London. It's a lovely, clean, friendly guesthouse. Great breakfast (banana smoothie particularly good), comfy beds, and we had a good view from our top room. Would recommend to friends as it was good value too!

Fabulous place, large spacious clean room with balcony. Hosts are lovely warm friendly helpful family. Breakfast was delicious and we ate in the restaurant twice, had we tried it the fist night we would of eaten every night. Definitely going back for another visit.

So glad we did, as the service was outstanding, the food was so good i nearly ordered a second and the atmosphere was lovely

we shall most definitely return again and again and again ........

Room Tip: didnt stay at the hotel, but if the restaurant is anything to go by... we will one day!

Hotel is very well located as the name suggests right by the Harbour and central to everything. Rooms are clean and comfortable with no problems that we experienced with external noise despite its location. Parking can be difficult in peak months and peak times but we still managed to find spaces on these occasions and the owners will provide good advice and parking permits for a small charge per day if required. Breakfasts are served in the nice restaurant area and largely consist of a full English with vegetarian option which can be tailored to your tastes if you need any variation from the normal menu content. However best of all are the very helpful and friendly owners who offer a first class service.
We were also pleasantly surprised with Ilfracombe as a base to explore the local area as it has an excellent range of shops, cafe's, pubs (including a new Weatherspoons close by which has a very pleasant garden feel open air roof top area). There are also other places of interest like the impressive Damien Hurst large bronze statue in the Harbour area + harbour aquarium (which exceeded expectations) + interesting museum near the Theatre.
Enjoy your stay!

My wife and I found this establishment by accident & we were very glad we did. The owners are very welcoming & want to ensure you have everything you need. The location is brilliant - right by the harbour & close to everything. You do however hear noise - the council seem to street clean every morning about 5am & revellers from nearby bars can be a nuisance although ear plus are thoughtfully provided. Our room on the top floor (a bit of a climb up with a case as there is no lift) was large and very comfortable with super views over both harbour & sea. Breakfasts are very substantial & freshly cooked. They also have an evening restaurant open to the public - booking even for residents is a good idea. The fish dishes are excellent & the service really good. We would love to go back.

Room Tip: Room 8 has super views but is on the top floor and is the most expensive but well worth it
