Lovely hotel and room - the bed was enormous. Staff went above and beyond to help, even finding a tie when we'd forgotten ours and supplying us with iced water for our morning hangover. The breakfast was really good and the night porter was a brick to put up with a random group of wedding revelers (including the bride and groom) until the wee small hours of the morning. All in all a very pleasant hotel and we would definitely stay again if we were in the area.

I stayed here as part of a diving trip. The rooms were really comfortable and we definately have stayed at a lot worse in the past. The hotel is also really clean! Got a great nights sleep. The hotel also dried out our wetsuits over night for no extra cost which made things more comfortable. The breakfast was ok, but nothing special have had better. Other people in my party found Clare the receptionist really helpful, but she was really off to me and my friend a couple of times, and somewhat patronising, so possibly you get a better response if male and not female. As my friend said if it is too much effort why bother.

Stayed on 9th June. Did not have a booking stayed on route to Cornwall. The service from Claire the receptionist was brilliant. The room was lovely, not big although the bed was 6ft wide (room 209). The shower was a double one. Spotlessly clean and comfortable. Room should have been £90 but as it was quiet we got it for £70. Breakfast was very nice. In fact it could not be faulted at all. Only one thing to watch is not to leave bathroom window open to wide (sash windows) as a seagull found my toothpaste on window ledge and pulled it into a small balcony and pecked holes in the tube. Gull has the freshest breath in Illfracombe.

Lovely old fashioned hotel close to town centre. Decor a little bit dated but I quite liked that and gave it an old world charm - and it was very clean. Room was smallish but perfectly comfortable. Very friendly staff and very well run hotel. I think it is incredibly good value for money. Would definitely recommend it.

Me my partner and our 2 children had a wonderful stay at The Carlton Hotel this weekend,
As we drove up to the Hotel it looked lovely A Welcome was The first thing we had on getting out of the car. Very friendly staff and very helpful through our stay. (all ways smiling) The lovely thing was that the staff made the effort to talk to us and the children. We had a double and two singles (one room) It was relay nice with an un-suite. Breakfast was relay good with a range of choices for us and the children. Only a short walk to the town ect.
We will be booking again next time we go to Ilfracombe.

A good start with friendly response to our enquiry and we were shown our room.May quite in Devon and we were immediately offered a discount for our stay which we considered gave us value for money compared to other overnight stays in Cornwall and Devon.Room was clean with good en suite space and comfy bed. The breakfast service was top quality, cheery and most efficient and food was of good quality, a pleasant start to the day.We decided to eat out and were recommended by the hotel to The Smugglers restaurant .It was excellent. Overall a lovely experience, friendly and we were well looked after.Recommend a stay here. Ilfracombe very quiet at this time of year and we enjoyed our time here.

Room Tip: View your room first. We were on second floor and at back of Hotel and it was quiet but town not bus...

Like other post's my wife and I were on a coach holiday staying at the Carlton hotel for seven nights.
The hotel lobby is a very well furnished clean spacious area with a high ceiling lit by some sparkling chandeliers. The background on the wall paper with fruits printed on It looks at first glance a little dirty, but as the days went by and a lot of Thatcher's cider it sort of grew on me!! The reception staff were very welcoming and efficient with tea served while we waited for our luggage to be taken to our rooms.
The double room we had was a little on the small side, but we did have a lot of luggage which took up a fair amount of space but we managed o.k. There was a well stocked tray with quality products. The whole room was very clean and the en suite shower with toilet and sink was Immaculate and a credit to the house keeping staff.
The food we had in the restaurant was on a set menu with a choice from three starters, three main courses and three deserts. The food was always hot and served as the staff warned on plates that were also very hot, Thanks to the chef and his crew I think is due here.
The staff waiting on the tables were brilliant in the speed in which they served us, the smartness of their dress, their personal cleanliness, their humour, but above all their need too make us feel welcome and wanted, and that nothing was too much trouble to ensure we left well feed and happy.
Breakfast was varied and plentiful which got you off to a good start to the day.
The hotel is not the best for disabled people as there are steps to different levels, or the lift which serves all the floors and must be tried to see if you can get stuck like me between floors, which was so funny as the staff will instruct you on how to escape.
I have a small mobility scooter which because of the entrance steps was a problem to move it in and out of the hotel, that is until not so tiny Tim got on my case he picked it up and almost ran up the steeps with it, then ran down with it if we were going out, thanks for that Tim, this goes to show how much they go out of their way to please the guest.
I think I'm about done now the time is 8.40pm and I've been up since 3am so please forgive any spelling and grammar mistakes.
Lastly I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff for making our stay perfect.
And a message to the management mainly the one who told me several times that "we work as a Team here" you are right it is a Premier Team.
