Ok so the rooms are a bit dated and there are a lot of stairs but its clean and all the staff are very friendly. Everything you could need is provided, The food is really good and the place just oozes character. We had 2 nights stay and enjoyed the evening entertainment,Nick one of the owners kept us well entertainer with his quirky tunes and his many jokes... my ribs are still hurting from all the laughter. Our bed was really comfortable the only thing that kept me awake was the noise of the seagulls and the pigeons that roost outside the window on the 4th floor. A great time was had by us all and we would certainly go again.

Room Tip: choose a lower floor if your a light sleeper as the pigeons that roost outside the window get up qui...

We booked a room for two nights to sleep three for my wife, our 12 year old son and myself in order to attend a wedding at the Tunnels Beaches.

The good weather was a distant memory when we arrived in the pouring rain, so everything along the road looked a bit grim, but that's seaside towns for you.

After seeing the weather forecasts for more rain during our stay, we were relieved to see that the wedding venue was just across the road.

We were greeted at the door by Nick who was very friendly and made us feel very welcome.

There was no checking in as such, we were just handed a key and directed to our room on the first floor.

First impressions of the hotel itself weren't that great to be honest. It's clearly dated and the decor isn't brilliant, but this is an independent, family run hotel in England - and when you take that into account, it's actually a lot better than some I've seen.

The room itself was large enough. It had a double bed and two singles. It was clean and everything worked, but the dated feel experienced on arrival continued in the room, where poor quality furnishings and decoration were the order of the day. At least the TV was a flat panel type so didn't take up too much room.

Tea and coffee making facilities were provided, but were placed on a pine shelf that looked out of place, like an after-thought, by the entrance door and next to the bed, which meant making a drink had to be done on the bedside cabinet. No problem for us.

The light fittings above the double bed were loose to the point of being dangerous and one didn't work as there was no bulb.

Beds were comfortable, though the pillows were pretty awful, making for an uncomfortable and restless night on the part of my wife and I. Our 12 year old could sleep on a clothes line, so he was ok.

The bathroom was small, obviously being a partitioned add-on at some stage, because it was built across a bay window at one end.

The shower wasn't particularly nice - it was cramped and had a curtain rather than a door, which personally, I don't think is ever the most hygienic option in a bathroom, but I guess space is at a premium, so it can be forgiven. At least it was all clean and everything worked.

Breakfast was notably good, though service on the first morning did seem a little below par from the young man who served us. On our second morning, he was a lot more personable, so maybe it was an off day on the Saturday.

The English breakfast was as good as I've had when anywhere - and that includes some 4 star brands. It was piping hot, brought out promptly and cooked to our liking, so full marks there. The tea wasn't so good, maybe it was the tea bags. I usually bring my own to use in the rooms I stay in, so the difference was notable, but it was ok.

We parked around the corner at the owner's house, so if you need to park off-road, get there early enough, as there are only three or four spaces. There's a pay and display car park across the road, but that seems to fill quickly. There's also some on-road parking, which is also pay and display at certain times.

Unlike others, we didn't experience the entertainment at the hotel, as we were at a party on the first evening and at a wedding on the second.

All in all, we got precisely what we expected and paid for. It was decent value, but that was due mainly to the personal attention of the owners, without which, this would be just another dilapidated, English seaside hotel.

Room Tip: Call and ask for anything you require - owners seem very keen to please and make sure that you enjoy...

Stayed over the weekend, a great break from the normal chain hotels. Hotel has character and the owners are extremely friendly, both my and my girlfriend were slightly worse for wear after sampling quite a lot of the bar on Friday night - great selection of spirits! Had a really great fun time here, which I doubt we would have had else where in Ilfracombe. Recommend.

Had one night here, booked at short notice as a last minute decision to go away for the night. Went with one other family. We booked this hotel after looking at the positive reviews on Trip Advisor. This review is quite tricky to write - the hotel is very much geared towards coach parties and I am sure that, looking at the reviews, it caters very well for them. However, as more independent travellers we found it slightly lacking in some areas. There is a tiny car park around the back, which you would only know about if you asked in reception. There are only about 4 spaces. We got to Ilfracombe a bit earlier than check in time, so had to spend £7 each to park the cars in the car park over the road. The hotel is a big place - we had two family rooms which are on the fourth floor. The lift only goes as far as the third floor (and I wasn't keen to use it anyway as it looked ancient!) It was quite a trek to get to our rooms. The décor is pretty tired and outdated. We noticed on the website that there was a small games room - we think it was the room we found that had a pool table (which was in an awful condition), and you still had to pay 50p a game. The darts board wasn't hanging up and that was it! Our room was perfectly clean and tidy but the TV was the smallest I had ever seen! It was about the same size as the remote control! We noticed that a fair amount of noise travelled between our two rooms (which were next to each other). It was OK for us as we knew the other family but would find it more annoying if we didn't. The evening entertainment seemed to be enjoyed by the coach party - Nick is very good at what he does but not really geared to our age group. We found all the staff very helpful and friendly but one small thing slightly annoyed us - we were stood getting a drink at the tiny bar in the room where the entertainment was, and we decided to stand there for a minute to work out where we could go so that we wouldn't be in anyone's way (as it was packed). A lady who was sat at the bar (we think she may have been the owner?) asked us to move so that others could get to the bar to order drinks. We thought this was a bit of a cheek considering she herself was quite happy to sit at the bar, and we were only there while we worked out where we could go! There was a nice seating area just inside the front door but as previous reviewers have said, it was slightly spoiled by the constant smell of cigarette smoke as people tended to sit right outside the front door to smoke. Breakfast was great - good choice on the menu and Steven, who served our tables, was really friendly, polite and efficient. I would recommend this place as its location is great, staff are friendly and the evening entertainment is very good (but maybe for the slightly older clientele!). Would come back now we know what to expect!

We have just returned from a five day holiday with National Coach Holidays to Ilfracombe. we stayed at the Osbourne Hotel. This is one of the best hotels i have stayed in when holidaying with National. The decor is basic but the rooms are very clean. The food is excellent with a good choice at breakfast and evening meal .The entertainment is very good with some thing to suit everyone. All the staff are very friendly and can`t do enough for you. The Hotel is close to all amenities
