Description: The Quay restaurant in Ilfracombe is home to a unique and substantial collection of Damien Hirst's works. The classical fronted building has been beautifully restored and now relates well to the stunning views out to the Atlantic and the traditional harbour of this ancient port. Exmoor Angus beef served at The Quay has been bred within a few miles of the restaurant, and the Lundy crab and lobster is delivered on a daily basis by the fishermen who catch it just a few miles off shore. With a wine list to delight the heart of the average oenophile, and a stellar selection of West County cheeses and home-made desserts on the menu, The Quay is a genuine treat for discerning food and art lovers alike.

“A Very good business dining experience.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 August 2014 via mobile

When one has to host foreign visitors, a complex and challenging menu can present a problem in translation and expectation. This is not the case at "The Quay" as the menu, largely speaking, is very simple.

Service wise, we were well looked after and the food was served fresh and accurately. The ingredients used are superlative, and compliment the view across the Bristol Channel from the upstairs dining room.

There were 10 of us and the meal came to £450, so expect £50 per head.

As I asked at the beginning, dear reader, would I go again? The answer is yes, to impress. For my private dining, though I might hesitate a bit (as I like a slightly more adventurous menu)

“Great good, shame about the service”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014

Was fab food and good value for what was on offer. Sadly the service was poor and very slow. Had to go and ask at the bar for salt, pepper, drinks and condiments some time after our main had been delivered as these weren't attended to. The bill took so long coming after we had asked for it that we just went up and paid. Overall great location, great food just let down with sloppy service.

“A good experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2014

This is a great experience with the restaurant being tucked away by the side of the quay in Ilfracombe. This is billed as a fish restaurant and it certainly lives up to its top rate reputation. We were a family of 4 adults and 2 young children so we booked for an early meal at 6 pm . The ambience of the restaurant is modern , clean and fresh - look out for the Damien Hirst artwork ( I understand that he is the owner of the enterprise) .
The service is attentive and well informed , the squid to start and the fish of the day - plaice - was really first rate , other party members had steak . Also try the chenin blanc and the local bear is great. Desserts are fine and in comparison with the main course they are "standard fare"
Allow some time for your meal it is freshly prepared.
It is wise to book
The cost was about £170

“Just popped in for coffee...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 August 2014

I like this quirky place. We have eaten upstairs before, and had a fab meal, this time we just popped in for an early evening coffee. The view over the harbour is great, it's got a nice relaxing atmosphere and attentive staff. There was no hassle that we weren't ordering food, it was fine just to sit with a drink, even though there was seven of us taking up a whole corner.
