“A review of the Imperial hotel.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2013

I walked into the hotel, there was no receptionist ...I couldn't find out where I was suppose to park, or if I had an allocated parking bay. I immediately asked for a refund but under their terms and conditions I wasn't entitled to one as I hadn't canceled in time.I paid for four nights but I left after three forgoing the money. I then went to stay in The Crescent hotel nearby for less money which was 10 times better.
The towels were hard and well used. The lift, of which there was one was constantly in use, with the over 50's and their luggage. The DVD didn't work. The decor was dated, the carpets were rotten, the rooms were very hot and with no air conditioning. There was an overriding smell of sewage, on two occasions.
The entertainment was bingo and perhaps some waltzing in the evening. Most suitable to the over 50's coach loads of which were booked in while I was there.
The staff done their best with what they had.... a real shame because the location is good and the architecture of the building excellent but unless this hotel spends some money to upgrade it's interior, it will do nothing to attract a young and diverse crowd, but merely bow to the niche market of the over 50's on tour.

We booked in here on a cheap weekend deal knowing nothing about the place, We were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is an imposing Victorian affair right on the sea front and despite the limitations afforded by its original design is very well presented. The room was a good size with a large bathroom, Both were very clean and tidy.

We only had breakfast, but evening meals were available. Both had enough choice to satisfy most people. While breakfast was included, evening meals were extra, but seemed very reasonably priced.

The staff were excellent, very efficient and friendly.

Be warned that this hotel is part of a larger chain and tends to cater for coach parties, but we felt that this did not detract from our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for one at the front, they have sea views.

Just back from a 7-day holiday with Alfa Travel. The meal the first night (Sunday) was poor - tough beef and rubbery Yorkshire puds. However, all the rest of the dinners were very good, with reasonable choice - also, the full English breakfasts were excellent.
We had a super coach driver (Steve) who gave us useful info about all places we visited on the very interesting excursions during the week. Hotel is also well-sited for easy walk into the harbour area.
This was our first holiday with Alfa but we'll definitely consider going with them again.

Room Tip: We oaid a small supplement for a sea view - resulting in a large airy room with excellent view.

I really liked this hotel, for the reasonable price we paid it is very good value. The location is amazing, it sits right on the sea front next to the amusements and all the children's summertime things to do along the front. It is also a 2 minute walk (up the hill behind it) to the hight street. The room was standard, just what you would expect but clean, comfy bed and nice bathroom. The hotel has bingo every night in the peak season which was only one ticket but nice to do something different. Hotel also had a singer. On the weekends the pub next door also has different entertainment, this night they had a rock and roll singer. We didn't eat the food but breakfast is an extra £4pp which you can add to your package when you get there. Dinner was an extra £10pp for a 3 course meal. They also do a packed lunch on request. Really nice little gem of a hotel, could be improved with a little refurbishment but for the price it was lovely.

We went to the Imperial Hotel on a 5 day/4 night Alfa coach holiday. What cracking value. The hotel is undoubtedly dated and could use a refresh, but it’s what you expect on a coach holiday and it’s clean and well serviced, the staff are excellent, but best of all was the food. Each day we had excellent choice, 2 mains on the menu, plus salads, vegetarian, and a Chef’s special. Breakfast was excellent too with many choices, and the waiting staff (mainly Eastern European) are absolutely superb. The hotel is well situated, being right on the promenade facing the Landmark theatre, and only 5 mins walk from the harbour. Alfa coaches had a slick process at Burtonwood for transferring you and luggage from the feeder coaches to your destination coach. All in all, no complaints and for value, can highly recommend it. We paid less than £200 each for 5 days accommodation BB and EM, with two full day trips, and all transport.

Room Tip: Pretty obvious but sea view rooms are noisy'ish with traffic and seagulls!

I am new to all of this, but I wanted to let everyone know just how good this hotel is! I have travelled with Alfa before and stayed in their hotels, but the Imperial is the best (up to now). The rooms were lovely and comfortable, spotlessly clean and the shower was probably the most powerful I have ever had. The restaurant staff are so friendly and efficient and the food is fantastic - you have to try the cheesecake as it is delightful! The breakfasts were also good with 'lighter' options for those that can't eat a cooked breakfast every day for 6 days.

The Hotel is in a perfect location and there is plenty to see nearby. We were spoilt with the weather and managed to book a boat trip which I would recommend. We booked it at the tourist information centre which is just opposite the hotel (underneath the plant pots). The bus stop is just up the road from the hotel with buses roughly every hour to Woolacombe and at least 2 an hour to Barnstaple (for the wife's shopping trips)

I don't know how they do it for the price, but I will be coming again next year!
