Run by Shearings, we went by car, very little parking yet most of people staying that week came by car NOT coach. If we wanted to go to a public parking it was a long walk away and very expensive. Have been to 2 other Shearings Hotel (Bournemouth and Scarborough) and been quite pleased at the economical price for full inclusive stay etc. Decided to stay 7 days this time, wished we had not. I know the weather was not too good despite it being first week in September, but the hotel was dirty, unkempt and the dinner meals were disgusting. We had a lovely Spanish waitress who was very apologetic but she was obviously embarrased about the meals. Entertainment was Ok if you like bingo for over 2 hours every night. Comedian was not funny, singer could not sing. Need I go on. We came home after 5 days and left to travel back overnight as it would be quicker. Coffee bar rarely open in the day so had to go out every day for coffee and found some lovely places to have cream teas. This hotel either needs a serious reburb or even better knock it down.

Room Tip: Do not go there

Please dont let first outside impressions of this hotel put you off. Yes, it is in need of a lick of paint but that is the only negative point to this hotel. Myself (43), my partner (48), and my Mum (66) stayed for a long weekend here in September 2011. I have a disability, which I informed the hotel upon booking and requested a ground floor room. Not only did I get that but much to my surprise, the room has a crafmatic/automatic bed, hand rails and an extra lower sink in the bathroom for wheelchair users. I had also requested that my Mum be placed close to our room, that too was taken of. The staff in the hotel, cleaners, reception, restaurant and entertainment staff were more than helpful and very friendly. The compare, Simon Caine (an X Factor finalist 2008) was brilliant! So funny and friendly as well as an excellent singer. The means were very good and as mentioned, the staff were great, they went out of their way to make sure you were happy with your meals and went that extra mile for some very elderly guests who needed extra attention. Nothing was too much trouble. This was our 3rd visit to a Bay Hotel, and the best so far. I found this hotel catered for a whole range of ages, not just over 60s as others we have stayed at did. If you can see beyond the fact that the hotel is in need of an update and bit of a face lift then you will have an excellent stay in a very clean, fun and friendly run hotel in an excellent location close to Ilfracombe beach, harbour and town

Room Tip: if you have a disability or difficulty walking, let the staff know upon booking and they will try an...

Just returned from an eight day holiday at this hotel. The staff here are very polite and helpfull and as soon as you arrive your cases are taken up to your room. The evening meals are served from 6.30 till 8.00 we found you get served really quickly and there is a good choice of food. If you have any special requests they are happy to oblige as long as you let them know beforehand. The only thing we would say is the plates are a bit small for a cooked breakfast. We were happy with the free bar as there was very little queing and from reading reviews from other hotels this can be a big problem, the system here seems to work well which is order your drinks, show your room key and take your drink back to your table. Thanks to Gary Linda and rest of the bar staff for your quick service.
But the best part of this holiday by far we found was the entertainment and this is down to the entertainment manager Simon Cain. He is areally good singer and commedien, he has everyone laughing at his jokes within minutes of being on stage. We are suprised he isn t on television as he is just as good if not better than the commediens on TV today. The week we were there we met people at the hotel who had seen him before and they had come back just to see him again. Unfortunatley he is leaving in January and we know it will be agreat loss to the dilkhusa as they will find it very hard to find anyone as talented as him and to find someone who has such a good connection with the audience as he has. We would reccomend people to go and see him they won t be disapointed.
The only downside to this holiday was the cleanliness of the room we found this to be very poor but on talking to other guests they were happy with theirs. All in all we had a good holiday and would go again.

We have just stayed at the Dilkhusa Hotel for a week, the hotel was filthy, the bedrooms were not cleaned the entire week we stayed there, mould and dirt took over the bathroom, the bedroom window was so rotten it was due to fall out, the Head Receptionist named Julie was the rudest person we have ever met in a Hotel, we was not allowed to use the lift the day we arrived as it was being used for luggage, we were made to walk up 4 flights of stairs and I and my husband are disabled, would I reccomend this Hotel, never, the staff and food was good that is the only nice thing I can say for this Hotel, I am shocked that this is a Shearings Hotel,

On the plus side: The staff were good & our waiter - Imre - couldn't do enough for us. Enjoyed the selection of meals & the cleanliness of our room & bathroom couldn't be faulted. However, on the negative side, the hotel really needs a facelift. The wallpaper in our room was peeled off in places & the paint round the window was all flaking. There was a poor piece of netting at the window & the kettle took so long to boil that we thought it wasn't working. We would do another Shearings coach trip but be wary about staying in another Bay hotel. It wasn't a cheap holiday either as my sister & I paid just under £1000 for 7 nights - 8 days.

This hotel was awful, it needs complete refurb, dark and dirty, kept the toilet roll on the floor as the wallpaper round the holder was brown!! Staff were friendly, evening entertainment an insult to the intelligence, couldn't wait to get home to my clean house

We had the misfortune to stay at this hotel from the 29th Aug to 2nd Sept. There is only 1 positive comment we can make, the entertainment brilliant, thanks to Simon Cain. We arrived to be allocated our room a twin not a double,so asked to be moved and got allocated the only double room available, this was on the 4th floor (aka the attic) and where do I start the damp stench was discusting the bathroom smelt foul, stains all over the carpet, on lamp shades, and chair, however sheets clean but bed seen better days We returned to reception to ask for a move and told nothing available. The food , well, very plain & bland( not the cleanest of environments the dining room).. To add insult to injury on the 2nd night ordered cheese and biscuits, ate some and then discovered that one had already been spread with blue cheese, not by me! promptly went to reception with the crackers to complain ,as no restaurant manager about. I got the response the day after after returning to reception. "Kitchen & restaurant so warm, the blue cheese becomes sticky and so will stick to crackers". Even though it was on the opposite side off the plate. To sum up I am aware that you get what you pay for, but in my view no matter if you pay £1,000 or a £100 for something it should be fit for purpose and not a risk to your health.
