When you arrive there is a sign by the door bell (as another person put reviewed on this site) but it is an amusing sign. It basically says, after you ring the bell, remember its a victorian house and we might be up at the top, it goes through a whole list of amusing reasons why there may be a delay in answering the bell, then it says if you've read this whole sign, and we still haven't answered... ring again. I'm not sure about the other reviewer, but I found it funny.
We were greeted by Ann the owner, and as we were habing one of there special undercover car spaces, her husband Dudley came out and directed me where to go (only about 50yds from the guest house). We paid for a double room, but was given a family room with one double and one single bed. The room was lovely, and the complimentary tray of bits and bobs was brilliant. Much more than I usually find in a b&b. (Shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, Shoe shine, Sewing kit, Shaving kit, Nail file set, Toothbrush, cotton buds, etc) There was even a bowl of sweets and a bottle of water waiting on the table, it was such an inexpensive, yet wonderful extra touch. The welcome pack had lots of useful information about the room and ilfracombe itself. We were going golfing the following morning, so asked if our breakfast could be served half an hour early, this was done with no problem. The breakfast is cooked fresh and is worth the 15 minute wait, I much prefer a small wait, than have to eat warmed up precooked food. We also had 2 slices of toast each, but were offered more if we wanted.. perhaps the neagative reviewer was too shy to ask for more. The view from the breakfast room is amazing, we enjoyed our stay. The only negative, is that the tv signal is intermittent. We had no watchable telly, but this is a reception problem, not through the fault of the guest house. But we had a dvd player in our room, so could have used that as an alternative if we'd needed to.
If we return to ilfracombe, we will definately be staying here again. It is literally a 2 minute walk to the harbour, which was nice and handy.
