Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for 2 nights and found it really lovely. It was close to the promenade and the harbour and was easy to find. The owner was friendly and very helpful. We have stayed in a lot of places and this was definately one of the nicest. The breakfast was amazing and could not have eaten any more. Would certainly recommend it to a friend.

Pretty location in the sun, with good value food and drink and central location. Staff were helpful, informative and polite. Felt very welcome and the cute garden was cosy and vintage feeling. One set back was the fact that the menu lacked some of the items, but we did come late in the day and that was good enough as most places had already shut.

I'm complete discussed, my wife and I had a lovely stay at the Acorn, Hugh and Anne were a delight, chatty and friendly, made us feel really welcome. lovely bedroom, perfect bed nice and quite, great breakfast they couldn't do more for us on our stay.

the thing that makes us really angry is the review below we were staying at the same time as JW (we didnt get her name) she was perfectly happy the whole time we saw her, finishing off her breakfast like all the guests, no complete until (and we heard her rant from up stairs)
she was not happy that there was a singles suppliment to her double room, quite the normal!

from what we heard Hugh was not the one been rude and arrogant it was 100% on the other foot, dont take this nasty revenge review as anything other than spit.

we will be down again to see Hugh and Anne, because thats how they made us feel it wasn't a visit to a B&B but a stay with friends

We stayed at Acorn lodge for 3 nights for a friends wedding.
We arrived early evening on the sunday to a very warm Irish welcome from hugh, it was like being welcomed by an old friend! We stayed in room 7 from the 3rd to the 6th. The rooms were spotless, the bed extremely comfortable and the room was equiped with all we needed!
We both found the breakfast delicious-well cooked, fresh and arrived at our table very quickly and served with a friendly face and conversation.
Acorn lodge is perfect for anyone wanting a relaxing break in lovely surroundings hosted by a warm friendly couple! We are both pretty hard to please but would not hesitate in staying here again if we were visiting the area. Looking at a couple of previous negative reviews I cant help but think the people writing them must be on another planet as they are so away from what we experienced!! Thanks again for a great few days we will be sure to recommend you to anyone heading to Ilfracombe. Joanne & James

Owner Hugh is the most RUDE, ARROGANT man I have ever met. The way he spoke to the other guests and myself was ATROCIOUS. The fact that he works in the travel industry is impossible to believe. I travel a lot with my business and I would much rather sleep on the beach than stay at the Acorn Lodge in Ilfracombe again. My room was filthy and smelt musty and damp. Sheets were dirty and i ended up sleeping on top of the bed with my clothes on instead of risking my health with the bedding. Bed was uncomfortable. Food was terrible, cold and my bacon was undercooked, near raw. Would avoid at all cost.

We stayed here for three nights in room 7 the four poster room.Comfortable(one of the bed posts was in front of the tv) and quiet as it was situated at the back of the guest house and not on the road at the front.Shower room cosy, but clean and plenty of storage for clothes.
If you are not very good on your feet, this may not be the place for you....there are quite a few steps to get into the front door and also up to most of the rooms, and there is no parking on site.....you can get a permit from Hugh the owner which entitles you to park a few hundred yards down the road or you have to park in the long stay car park in the harbour.....quite a trot if you are elderly.Parking outside is free from 6.00pm until 10.00am,but there are only 5 or 6 spaces,so very rare to find one free, and you will get a ticket if the warden comes round!Having said that, the guest house is in an ideal spot for the harbour, with boat trips etc and plenty of places to eat out in the evening.
Hugh and Anne are very good hosts and the breakfasts are lovely....good tea and coffee and plenty of food......really sets you up for the day! They also have a tea garden at the front and you are welcomed with a cream tea(lovely!)Hugh is a font of knowledge and has some great recommendations for places to go for evening meals.
We would recommend this guest house to anyone wanting a value for money stay in a clean and comfortable place in Ilfracombe.

Room Tip: One at the rear of the property will probably be quietest(apart from the darned seagulls!)
