“When irish eyes are smiling”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

Ann & Hugh make you feel at home in this very comfortable and clean bed & breakfast. The rooms are comfy, with tv and our room had en suite facilities. Breakfast is amazing, cereals, fruit and full irish cooked breakfast. I asked for porridge one morning and it was served no problem. There is a garden to the front serving sandwiches and afternoon teas. There are steps leading to the entrance. Location couldn't be better, within walking distance to the harbour to the left and the town to the right. Woolacombe beach is well worth a visit as is Lynton & Lynmouth . This is our third visit to the Acorn Lodge and we haven't been disappointed. Highly recommend it.

Went for a long weekend with three friends to do some surfing at Woolacombe beach which is about a 10 minute drive from Ilfracombe. So pleased that my friend organised us to stay at the Acorn Lodge. It was perfectly adequate for what we were after - great location in the Ilfracombe town, near the waterfront, hilarious and very hospitable hosts that kept us entertained with their great Irish humour and a big hearty English breakfast each morning, and clean and tidy accommodations.
We asked for recommendations on places to eat from Hugh and he was very honest - we went with his idea of the Italian a 1 min walk from the B&B and couldn't have had a better meal if we'd been in Italy. Hugh suggested on our lazy day to wander the coastal path, which we did, and again his idea couldn't have been more better.
I'm gluten-free so Hugh and Anne were very conscious about that as part of the English breakfast and accomodated me as much as possible.
All of us enjoyed our stay and I'll definitely be back again to bring my parents when they visit the UK as I know they'll love the hospitality of Hugh and Anne and budget-friendly accommodation.

Please note: I've only put the swimming pool and fitness centre as a 1 on the review because I didn't see any. You don't need it in Ilfracombe - get out and enjoy the fresh seaside air!!

I stayed for one night over the Easter Break and was made to feel extremely welcome. The rooms are average, but completley adequate. The beds were comfy and clean and had a great nights sleep. Breakfast was delicious. A nice selection of cearels with fruit and fresh tea and coffee. And a full English was spot on with toast and jams. The location of Acorn Lodge is perfect.and parking is nearby. We'd stay again. :-)

I want to caveat this review by saying that I find it ridiculous the prices that you have topay in the UK for hotels. This little Devon town cost as much as Paris!!

But for all that thie Acorn Lodge I guess is typical British seaside accomodation, quite basic, quite tired but despite that we had a pleasant stay. The owners were great, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good as was the tea in the cafe.

The rooms were tidy but the seperate shower and loo were showing their age. The hotel, like many others here, doesn't have parking, but there is cheap parking near the harbour, a pleasant 5 minute stroll.

The best thing about the hotel is definitely the location.

If you are using the hotel as a base to visit the area I would recommend it, if you plan to spend much time in your room .... probably not.

Just a quick word on Ilfracombe, what a pleasant surprise, a lovely little town, some great restaurants, shops, cafes and pubs and blessed with some magnificent surroundings. I've read a lot of negative about the town on this forum, don't believe it, it's well worth a visit.
