We recently visited this lovely mill and tea rooms and were pleasantly surprised! The mill attraction is beautifully restored and for a nominal fee you can see working mill wheels and watch flour being ground ( not on the day we went ),David the owner is friendly and knowledgeable and passionate about the mill ! we followed up by a lovely tea and cakes in the quaint tea shop on site . Cathy makes the most delicious cakes ,mostly from their own flour and is also lovely and friendly. There is a pretty garden too ,so there is no excuse NOT to visit ! We highly recommend it and will be going back very soon for a cream tea !!

The cream tea was good for sure but not the absolute best we have had. The tea room itself was very cramped and the use of space a bit strange. A sofa resides in the corner taking up a lot of room which could be better used for another table of four rather than seating for two. The main access into the mill is also a bit unappealing, you have to walk past some rather smelly large bins as well as various bits of old rubbish strewn on the floor in order to get to the mill which is a shame. Overall good but far from an excellent experience.

Thanks for your review. Yes, there are lots of cream teas out there. We haven't called ourselves "The Best cream tea" but were awarded the Devon life "best tearoom 2013" as voted by readers. We're just a family trying to preserve a working watermill and provide homemade cakes and refreshments to visitors. We try to give everyone a good experience when visiting the mill but in busy times, especially when it's raining, we are concerned with finding seats for everyone. With regard the sofa, when we were flooded in 2012, we took the opportunity to remodel the tearoom seating. We asked our regular visitors whether the sofa should stay or not and they voted unanimously for it to stay. Several have small children who like to curl up whilst parents get a well deserved break whilst walkers too prefer a comfy option after a trek over Hillsborough.
I appreciate your comment regarding the bins which will hopefully assist with our ongoing battle with Devon Council. The bins are not ours and are not on our property but are used by the flats in Cornmill Close. We are continuously battling to have them relocated and emptied more frequently without success. You visited during the bank holiday weekend which had delayed the collection date and exacerbated the situation. Fly tipping is also a problem and we often end up having to take items to the tip ourselves as the council will not remove items from this private road. However during the Easter period we were open continuously for 18 days which made this impossible. We do try to encourage our visitors to park in the public car park in Beach Road and take the more scenic approach along the footpath following the stream thus avoiding the Cornmill Close entrance.

Stayed in the cottage attached to the tea room. Wonderful place, cosy and comfortable. Made extremely welcome by David and Kathy. The Mill is well worth visiting and the food from the Tea Room excellent.

Local to Hele Bay and walks to Ifracombe and the Combe Martin.
