A few weeks ago we were desperate for a quality cream tea, but everywhere was closed for the season, including Hele Corn Mill. But my daughter contacted the owners nonetheless, they obliged as they had just returned from a weeks holiday. Not only did Cathy prepare scones from their own flour upon arrival, David gave us a tour of the mill whilst the delectable treats were being cooked. It may have had something to do with the fact that my daughter shared the same name as friends of theirs, but this did not deter the most hospitable reception. Whilst we were there on 'closed' weekend morning two further groups of hopefuls turned up, including an extra 11 abandoned at a bus stop.
It seems that Cathy and David love their work. This is a highly recommended cream tea.

Ps my daughter Sarah was not well the week after our visit - not a stomach thing, which is why our review has been delayed.

Thank you for your Kind review. Its lucky Kathy can usually make scones at the drop of a hat, otherwise there may have been a number of hungry Walkers knocking at our door. Just to let you know Since we met you we have Won the Devon Life Magazine Best tea room/coffee shop of the year 2013. So of course we are extremely chuffed with that. We hope to see you again in 2014 and that Sarah is now fully recovered

Everything is freshly baked with their own milled flour. Huge choice of goodies, I had a lovely cheese scone and for desert a slice of delicious apple cake, served warm, with clotted cream. My husband chose his favourite, a cream tea -2 scones, clotted cream and jam and then managed a big slice of carrot cake too!! He looked like the cat that got the cream -well he is a Leo.
The hosts were really welcoming and friendly too.
We can certainly recommend it.

You and many other reviewers are very kind in your praise of our little business, and for that we thank you. We do worry that new visitors expectations may be too high for us to achieve. So, take us for what we are and we will do the best for you with what we have. We are now only open for 5 more days 11, 12, 13, and 18, 19th Oct. 2013 Then unless its a special one off day we are closed until next year. We hope to see you all again in 2014. Please follow via our website which has our active FB page embedded in the home page.

What a find! A warm welcome awaits at this Exceptional tea room run by the miller's wife at this restored grain mill. All food is made by the family, proper Devon splits to go with copious amounts of clotted cream and jam. I enjoyed the savoury tea with cheese scone, cream cheese and onion marmalade. Everything was SO good that we returned specially on the last day of our holiday and were glad to have done so. For those on special diets there is always a home made gluten free cake - just as yummy as all the other delicious cakes too. A clean loo, high chair and amusements are readily available for families. Do try this p,ace younwill not be disappointed.
