We came across the George and Dragon whilst meandering around exploring Ilfracombe. A lovely traditional inn with lots of character and original features, the bar man was friendly and welcoming and served a good selection of real ales. We both ordered the salad ; one ham and one tuna, with a side order of chips. There was plenty of it and the balsamic onions were a hit absolutely gorgeous. A pleasant relaxing atmosphere to while away a couple of hours on a lunchtime with a pint and the papers. Do seek it out if you are ever in Ilfracombe.

This is another popular pub in Ilfracombe. It gets really packed out which makes it a bit uncomfortable. Having said if you manage to get seated its great.

Whether you're wanting a morning coffee, something a little stronger or a meal, this friendly inn has much to offer. A particularly welcome feature is the 'no mobiles' rule: a refreshing reminder that Ilfracombe is a holiday destination. Food is good quality and reasonably priced, but be warned- you'll need Cash as cards aren't accepted.

Stopped at The George a couple of times during my stay in Ilfracombe - the first just for a couple of pints and a quiet corner in which to do the crossword and the second for (a quite important) lunch.

I do like this pub: it is redolent of history and tradition, with its low beams and cozy interior befitting the oldest pub in Ilfracombe, which can trace its history back to the 14th century. It's not just about its history, though: the service here is warm and friendly and they throw in a couple of garrulous regulars for extra conviviality!

No Tribute here, alas, but the Exmoor and Spitfire Ales on pump more than compensate. The meal at lunch was uniformly good. My Steak and Kidney Pie was delicious and hit a spot that had been earmarked for a good S&KP for a long time! My partner had the Stilton and Vegetable Crumble, which she enthused over, while her mother had what she said was her staple at The George - the prawn baguette, which she declared up to standard.

The pub is apparently very popular for its weekly quiz night, which is something on my to-do list when I next visit.

My husband enjoyed a perfect steak and I a beef casserole with vegetables. Good sized portions and well cooked and seasoned. Mobike phones are banned (hurray) although you can use the free wifi. I guess it is the inane chat they so rightly object to. It is nice to see people interacting with each other and not technology,
