“Short Break in North Devon”

Stayed at the Collingdale for two nights on 6th & 7th April. On arrival we received a very warm welcome and shown to our room which was very clean and nicely decorated with a lovely view. A very comfortable bed and plenty of hot water. The owners Sharon and Daryl were very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and suggested a visit to Appledore as we hadn't been there before and also recommended an excellent tea room, Susie's, where we had a superb cream tea. When asked about restaurants in Ilfracombe and they asked what our preferences were. Based on our answer they suggested Relish and, again, they were not wrong. We had a fantastic meal with brilliant service. A special mention for Daryl's wonderful breakfasts which were cooked to order and set us up for the day. We had a fabulous time and wouldn't hesitate to return.

This was our second visit to The Collingdale; the first being 10 years ago. This visit didn't disappoint. The Collingdale is in an excellent, elevated location with fantastic views over Illfracombe harbour which is literally a five minute stroll down a gentle hill. The bedrooms are well appointed and very comfortable and the public areas very tastefully decorated and furnished. Last time, we stayed in a family room and this time, two rooms on the top floor. Sharon and Daryl are, without doubt, excellent hosts. They are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. With excellent knowledge of the area, they can recommend what to do, what to see and where best to eat. Daryl's breakfasts are some of the best we have come across and whether you opt for the 'full Devon', smoked haddock with poached egg or any variation off the menu, it will set you up for a day's exploring. We had such a lovely time again that we are already planning our next trip again next year!

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors even better views!

Had a short stay here in late March and had the superior room with sea views and balcony.
The view from the balcony was stunning, the staff all very friendly and welcoming and the breakfast was of a very high standard. Especially the smoked haddock and poached egg, the one to go for!

Will be visiting again for sure.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a Sea View room!

Previous comments about the breakfasts set the bar high, but we were not disappointed. My "full Devon" cooked to order was delicious, as was my wife's lighter choice of poached egg on toast; will have to return to try Daryl's smoked haddock. Bedroom and public rooms all clean and well ordered. The location slightly out of the town centre, but within easy walking distance via the interesting commercial fishing quay was ideal. On arriving home I found my well-travelled hat was missing and I was pretty sure I had left it on the sea-view terrace. A quick e-mail prompted the owners to check; it was still there and they responded rapidly with a promise to pop it in the post. That's what I call service!

Stayed here for 3 nights in April for a long weekend away. Lovely, clean room with a big comfy bed, and beautiful views of the harbour. Very welcoming hosts, nothing was too much trouble and we had many good recommendations of where to go and what to see! A lovely breakfast - poached and scrambled eggs are good! :) Would definitely stay here again. :)

Room Tip: Quite a few stairs to get to the higher floors but the views are worth it if you can.
