Norbury House Hotel

This was our first UK holiday, and we couldn't be happier that we chose to visit Ilfracombe and especially Norbury House Hotel!
From the moment we drove up to the house we were made to feel so welcome by both Paula & Adam, and of course Bovril!
they are both so knowledgable on the local areas, and were more than happy to share this with us, they recommended great places to see and eat!
the hotel itself is gorgeous, a beautiful victorian house, decorated both in an elegant and modern way.
there is a very relaxed and unintrusive atmosphere, which was great.
we had a gorgeous cooked breakfast every morning, Paula makes the best poached eggs!
we felt like we were staying with friends rather than in a hotel.
if you are luck to be there on a thursday to Saturday, we would definitely recommend Clarets restaurant too, we had the best 3 course meal for my birthday!
overall, we had an amazing time in Ilfarcombe, soaking up the sights and the history, and it was all made perfect with the perfect hosts!

We stayed here for our daughter's wedding at The Tunnels nearby. Paula and Adam the owners instinctively knew what was needed and when. The breakfasts were scrummy and varied, I intended to try them all. They made a joyous occasion even more special.

This is a really cool place with a friendly couple running it. Our room had a beautifully grand view of Ilfracombe but the location is a bit far from the town center.

Although it was just an overnight stay we immediately felt at home and comfortable at Norbury House. Adam and Paula were perfect hosts thinking of everything might need including bedtime sweets! The hotel was our base for a spot of bodyboarding at Woolacombe, only 15 mins away. We had a great breakfast to set us up for the day and just about managed to pull on the wetsuits after. I'm sure we'll be back for more surf and Norbury house hospitality soon!!

Paula and Adam are the very best of hosts - we were welcomed with tea, coffee and biscuits sitting in the sun and left after a couple of lovely nights with fond farewells and hugs. Paula even opened the door for us at 2am following the wedding we had been to and made sure we got up to our room ok, all done with a laugh and smile We had, of course, misplaced the key after a somewhat 'hazy' day... Certainly not your usual!

Norbury House is extremely relaxed, has beautiful views and a lovely atmosphere in general. Would definitely recommend!

I had not been to Ilfracombe for 25 years and was slightly apprehensive about returning, particularly with a family now in tow. Decided to stay at Norbury on the basis of trip advisor reviews and what a brilliant choice! Paula and Adam are the perfect hosts. Paula even arranged an early check-in for us, and a offered us a nice cup tea on arrival, which was lovely.

We had the linked family room, and it was very clean and tidy. It even had 2 showers. The breakfasts are superb, with plenty of choice from locally sourced produce, and will set you up for the day. Ask Adam for a 'live' surf report if you head out to Woolacombe beach, which is fantastic! Our (teenage) children loved it. Parents with younger children and toddlers will perhaps like the more secluded Tunnels beaches in Ilfracombe. It's a safe, enclosed environment and is great for paddling and rock pooling. It can get busy though, and you have to pay to get in here, but entry fees are minimal, and are well worth it if you are there for several hours.

Of an evening, you won't do any better than to visit John at Chimes restaurant along the sea front 10-15 mins walk down the hill from Norbury House (remember that you have to get back up the hill!). As a family of four, we know that it can be expensive to eat out, but this was truly great value for money. All the food is freshly prepared while you wait. The crab cakes were something else! If Chimes is full, try the Rocky Cove Cafe next door which is equally as good; ask for the home made chicken curry!

Then work off the fab meal by heading towards the harbour. Even if you are not golfers, there is a lovely and quite challenging pitch and putt course just past the harbour (walk down the access road on the right hand side) which gives great views of the harbour and town. See the photo.

All in all a brilliant holiday, brilliant hosts, and thanks for making us feel so welcome!

From the moment you arrive at Norbury House you know you are in the right place. The hosts Paula and Adam stop at nothing to provide you with a break to remember. The welcoming Tea/coffee and biscuits are just a taster of the fantastic service to follow. Even the gorgeous dog Bovril makes you feel at home. The rooms and decor are a breath of fresh air, they are very stylish indeed.
When you go down for breakfast your tastebuds are in for a treat. The breakfast is by far the best we have had over the years. Paula and Adam make you feel like friends and it is genuine, they really know how to look after you. My strong advice is to look no further than Norbury House, you will struggle to find better.

Room Tip: Everyone is catered for, whether they be singles, couples or families.
