“Fantastic Place to Stay - The best B&B we have ever stayed in”
Reviewed 9 August 2010

My husband and I had a lovely time at Westwood and would certainly recommend it. The rooms were contemporary and extremely clean with fantastic service and attention to every detail. Helen couldn't do enough for us and breakfast was delicious. It is only a short walk into Ilfracombe town and only a half and hour drive to Croyde Bay, so also great for a surfing base.

We stayed for two nights at the Westwood B & B. It is a lovely place and exactly the sort of place I would hope to find. The rooms are comy, clean and tastefully furnished. The hotel is in a nice, quiet location. It is only a ten minute walk down to the harbour with all of its restaurants and bars - but far enough away to give you a good, quiet night's sleep.
The breakfast was excellent and the owner was very helpful - arranging dinner reservations for us.
I would definitely stay there again and recommend to anyone who is looking for a good quality B & B from which to enjoy North Devon.

This was the second time that we stayed at Westwoood, having been so impressed the first time round. The location is perfect, with the back garden leading straight on to the coastal path along some of the best coastline in the UK.

We spent the first day, walking to Croyde which was a bit further than we should have gone perhaps. Was great to come back (via taxi) and relax in the roll top bath and then head to town for some dinner. I think the Quay restaurant has gone downhill a bit since our last visit, but we told that the Le Gendarmarie is perhaps the best place to eat now.

On both occasions we stayed in Room 1 and this is a lot more spacious that the picture gives it credit for and the views over Ilfracombe are superb.

Helen is a great host who prepares a lovely breakfast in the morning to set you up for a great day in the countryside.

One benefit I wished I had taken up was the ability to walk the two labradors - unfortunately, we felt we might be going a bit too far - the option is there though!

Upon arrival at Westwood we were greeted by the owner, Helen, who was friendly and helpful throughout our two day stay. We had booked the standard double but upon arrival were offered the large room with the views of the town as it had become free, of course there was a small fee for the upgrade but it was worth it. The room was beautifully decorated, with contemporary and comfortable furniture and the bed was large and soft. The En suite had a bath and separate shower, which had good hot water and pressure.

Helen made us a fresh pot of tea (and biscuits) when we arrived and we asked to meet her labradors, os and charlie, who were just great and accompanied us on our coastal walk to Lee on the second day. If however you do not like dogs they are not forced upon you...they are though very sweet natured! Breakfast was served until 9:30am and this was very yummy, there was a choice of menu and the ones we tried, were delicious.

The hotel itself is based higher than the town and therefore provides great views of the town (the sea can just be seen). There is parking but the harbour and town is in easy walking distance. We didn't spend too much time in Ilfracombe itself but were pleased with Helen's recommendation of the coastal walk and the location provides a good base to discover other local towns and villages.

We would certainly return to Westwood should we be in Devon again.

Stayed at Westwood for two nights with my wife as a base to visit Lundy Island, and we were very impressed. From the moment we arrived the owner Helen made us feel most welcome. The rooms in the property are very impressive and well above the standard of B&Bs that I have stayed in before – One of the most comfortable beds I have slept in - The breakfast was super, with a great choice and Helen will cook it just as you want - a great way to start the day - if you want a break in Ilfracombe, then this is without doubt the place to stay!!

We had a very comfortable and relaxing two nights at the Westwood B&B in Ilfracombe. Our room was spacious and clean the bed very comfortable and the breakfast very tasty and to a high standard, I was very pleased to see smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on the menu - a favourite of mine and a nice alternative to the obligatory full english.

Helen the owner is a warm and friendly host who made us feel very at home. She was attentive and keen to share with us her local knowledge, which we were very grateful for.

Helen has a famous neighbour, I'm not saying who If you want to find out who they are you'll have too book a night at the this first rate B&B.
