Stayed in room 246 - comfortable apart from the steep, narrow stairs from ground floor to the 2nd.
Every meal was good for both days of our stay. Friendly staff, clean room, good but small shower cubicle. Still cannot understand the negative reviews unless related to other local hoteliers!
All in all - a good stay.

Room Tip: If you're okay with steep narrow stairs then go for 246.

A blast from the past when we walked in, was given a warm welcome, room was in need of attention, however it was clean. Bathroom was unusual, shower sat on bath taps so had to stand and put shower over yourself !!!!!! Dinner was very hot and filling staff pleasant, breakfast was ok. Lots of elderly people there who were all nice, car parking a nitemare, . When we checked out the key was taken from me and not even a thank you, this was probably due to the young man who took the key was drinking his mug of tea at the time, just as we reached the door to go out I heard the nice American gentleman wish us a safe trip back home. Thank goodness we went on a Wowcher deal.

Fifty two blokes from Chipping Campden Men's Keep Fit Group descended on the hotel on Friday 4th October - in fact some of our golfers arrived the day before.
Yes, this hotel is like so many in the UK, and 'could do' with investment, but the rooms were clean, the food wholesome and the staff coped with us with smiles and willingness. The entertainment on Saturday was typical/excruciating, so the local pubs won out, but we were all, very happy to stay at the Grosvenor.

My husband and I stayed at The Grosvenor September 2013 after purchasing a discount voucher online. I, unfortunately didn't research the hotel before booking as we were getting such a good offer. The hotel only has a very small number of car parking spaces allocated to it across the road so you have to pay to park on the main road, which is very reasonable for a seaside resort. To get into the hotel you have to negotiate about a dozen very steep steps, a bit tricky, if like me you have difficulty walking at the best of times. Once inside you were taken back to the old hotels of yesteryear. We had a very warm welcome from the manager and were shown the lift up to our room which wasn't too far away. There are lots of little corridors and lots of stairs to access the rooms but it's very typical of the Vicotrian era. The hotel room wasn't very spacious but big enough for the two of us it was very clean and with a lovely comfy bed. Plenty of tea, coffee and sugar to make a cuppa even though it says in the handbook you can purchase extra you don't need it if your only staying the weekend. The staff were really friendly and couldn't be more helpful. The meal, included in the offer on the first night, was very nice. Not worth the price printed on the menu though. Because of the my disability I wouldn't book again as I would rather be nearer the seafront. But were made very welcome and I would recommend it to those that are able to manage steps.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the opposite side to the kitchen as the cooking smells permeated through to our ro...

For a 2 star hotel and coach from Wolverhampton £159 inclusive, it was very good value. Negatives comments: Rooms need re-furbishing, scaffolding outside my window, more room number signs as I kept getting lost going to my room 366. Shower head didn't fit on the shower stand so had to use as a hand shower only (I feel sure something would have been done had I reported it to reception staff) Old fashioned TV with no remote control. Breakfast not brilliant, toast not toasted very well. Different coach/driver on return trip. Didn't explain why or introduce himself (good driver though) My room definitely not suitable for anyone with difficulty climbing stairs.
Positive comments: Room clean and very quiet. Comfy bed. Plump pillows. Excellent meals in the evening with plenty of choice. Desmond the first coach driver was lovely. Staff very friendly and helpful. Thursday night's entertainment was excellent. He was so good my friend thought he was miming, but he wasn't. Newspapers for sale in reception with an honesty box for paying. Case taken to my room by a courteous young lad. Situated in a lovely place close to harbour, shops, theatre, tourist information, museum etc. Will definitely return next year as don't think I would find better value elsewhere.

Room Tip: Request a room on the lower floor when booking, if a problem climbing stairs. Lots of stairs to cli...

ok,firstly me and my wife booked this thu wowcher, and reading the reviews was expecting either a dump or a old fashioned ,dated hotel
we found the latter, yes, hotel parking was a problem but right outside on the road was street parking which is 50p an hour and free from 1800 to 1000, so no problem.
walked into hotel, and entrance was lovely and ol fashioned
i would call thehotel "quirky" small lift up to 2nd floor but only serves front of hotel and our room was along a corridor up some small steps then had to go up a small flight of stairs to our room
opened the door and found a very pleasant room, again ,old fashioned but CLEAN,AND TIDY, with clean towels and complimentary toileties on the bed.
being a large guy didnt try the shower as it was on the small size, but heyho
evening entertainment fri was a disco and sat was a guitarist and both was excellent
breakfast was ok but ran out of kippers on sat,,
overall this was a PLEASANT STAY and anybody expecting a 5 star stay, forget it,its a wonderful base to explore north devon

Room Tip: if elderly ask for room at front of hotel,as stairs to back rooms could be a problem

Some people moan about everything and I'm really not one of those people. I accept things as they are and get on with it. BUT this hotel was really below standard. When we walked in we wanted to walk out again. Room 103 had a double and single bed. No flat screen tv but a very small old portable. The bathroom had a hole in the wall, was shabby and dated and the bath had a shower tap which you could not leave on to run a bath or hang up to have a shower. There were no glasses for a cold drink and the teacups were dirty inside and out. Not stained - just not washed. The bed had a huge dip in it. We left it unmade and when we came back in the evening it had been made but when we got in it we found the mattress cover had come off and not been put back on properly which left it all crumpled underneath us. There are obviously some very lazy housekeepers! We have been to better B & B's with all mod cons like flat screen TV's and internet use although these were not the main issue but this was like going back in time it was so basic. It's the laziness and dirtiness that is unforgivable.
