Hotel clean, food very good and staff friendly with nothing too much trouble. The radiator in our bathroom wasn't working but upon reporting this is was on in no time. We had a very difficult journey from Kent and on arrival a welcome cup of tea was waiting for us, much appreciated. Our room was very comfortable, one negative the bathroom is in need of an update and needs renewing but that said it was perfectly useable. The entertainment in the hotel was better than most. If we came to Ilfracombe again we would certainly return to the Grosvenor.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a shower, or a bath instead, you need to request this as some rooms have eit...

Basic 2* family run Hotel that could not do enough for you. CLEAN accommodation, EXCELLENT food, From the moment I walked through the door I felt as if I was part of the family, nothing was too much trouble, It was a Christmas stay where Santa called Christmas morning and every resident received a present. The Grande Buffet was spectacular and beautifully presented. Extra bedding was provided when requested by elderly residents. Even though it was the Christmas period the rooms were cleaned and spotless when I arrived and throughout my stay. Entertainment was provided all evenings with a charity raffle and a fancy dress which was a huge success. There is a lift to all floors. This is an old fashioned hotel with old fashioned value family service. I highly recommend it!! Well done to Wendy, Rayner and family xx

I immediately felt very Welcome in this Hotel. We go on a lot of these Coach Tours as they are just long enough for me! The best thing was - the staff were enthusiastic, caring and made you feel most welcome. Nothing was too much trouble! We had a bath in our room on the top floor (3) and I am disabled. We were with a group so I did not book it. So I went to see the man on reception. He carefully studied what to do then gave me a key to an empty room with a walk in shower. The water was hot, the heating was good and the bathrooms were lovely! Everything was very clean & the beds were warm and comfortable.
On the Wednesday night we had a buffet second to none with food that made your mouth water - you wanted to try everything - it looked so good! Delicious salads, meats, fruits and desserts amazingly arranged to look lovely on the tables. The food was plentiful and delicious. There was a raffle, a cake competition and a Fancy Hat Contest! The entertainment was good and a lot of people enjoyed the dancing - I can't dance, being disabled, but the accompanying music made us have a great time! The kitchen staff gave us everything we asked for and enough tea & coffee - also in our rooms. Very attentive and efficient!
There was ample cupboards and drawers and chairs. We were on the top floor so had no problems with noise or anything else for that matter! Never had to wait long for the lift.
One very small addition that would make it even better would be some sauces for the table - brown sauce and tomato (although we had plenty of fresh tomatoes) or some mayonnaise.
This is a great hotel in a very good location with staff who wish to help and make you have a good break. Well Done!

Room Tip: The very top rooms are more quiet and restful and they are warm & comfy enough!

My husband and I recentely fancied and short break away from hetic work schedules and a weekend in North Devon seemed just the thing. we hit the internet and found the Grosvenor Hotel in Ilfracombe after our drive down from the midlands we arrived at what can only be described as a truly charming hotel with a very warm welcome. after being shown to our rooms which were very comfortable, clean and met all our needs we heading down to the bar and was greeted by friendly staff always saying hello and at hand to help. We had a lovely relaxing weekend left to our own devices although there was entertainment to enjoy in the evenings if you wished. My Husband and I had a super relaxing time enjoying the beaches and costal walks that are right on your door step we can't wait to go again.

Booked in through a GroupOn offer and it was understandable why it needed the custom. The first issue was the climb to the bedroom, which included four flights of narrow stairs and long corridors. It was exhausting getting their and so we avoided having to return as much as possible. The noise from the room above resulted in poor sleep, someone obviously had a bladder problem. We had an allocated table for breakfast and each course was delivered to you, although there was choice. We did not have any food there though because of the lack of vegetarian options. Staff were pleasant. The evening entertainment seemed geared to the touring coach party of elders and although I am of that age it was not for us. It was also difficult to avoid unless you went to your room, so spend the evenings elsewhere only returning to try to sleep.

Room Tip: Do not go above the first floor as getting to other floors is exhausting

After reading earlier reviews we were a little concerned to say the least, but the hotel turned out to be very welcoming, friendly and cosy. We'd booked a Just Go Holiday weekend, as a late deal, and at a bargain price. On arrival we were greeted with a welcoming cup of tea, with an introduction to the hotel, in the lounge, (cosy and comfortable) before being given our room keys. Admittedly it was a bit like a maze finding our room on the second (or perhaps third floor?) but it's an old building so would be quirky, and I rather liked it. We'd booked a twin room but must have had a family room, as there was a double bed and two singles, so we had plenty of room and a choice of where to sleep! Our room provided everything we needed, and the curtains and bed coverings were a warm and cheerful design. Although the furniture (wardrobe & bedside cabinets) were white MDF, it didn't matter to us, as they were clean and practical and fine for the purpose. There was also an old lounge chair to sit on. The beds were very comfortable. Slept well! Bathroom was clean. We don't mind whether we have a bath or a shower so were happy with the bath, and a jug for hair washing etc. Handy shelf above basin. Plenty of tea, coffee and milk, on the dressing table/desk which was nice. Also a small flat screen TV. Fine for watching the usual channels. We don't expect to go away and be watching TV all the time, so it's fine for news or weather updates, Downton Abbey etc! Overhead reading lights above each bed, with handy switch beside bed. Evening meals at 7pm. Efficient service by very friendly staff. Tasty food. Choice of three starters. The soup was always delicious! Only a choice of two main meals, but very tasty, with loads of potato and vegetables. Choice of three desserts (one is usually ice cream). Breakfast was good too, with a choice of cereals, porridge and juice etc to start. We had the full English (excellent) but there were other choices. Also toast and marmalade etc (would top up if required) and plenty of tea or coffee. The waiting staff were so cheerful and helpful. Always with a smile. The bar and reception staff were very friendly too, as were the cleaning staff when we met them en route to our room! The lounge/entertainment area (as stated earlier) was comfortable and spacious with sofas, chairs and tables. And the bar was close at hand within that area. We didn't join in with the entertainment but heard from our fellow travellers that they'd had a good time dancing or listening to the music! The location of the hotel is good, not opposite the sea, but not far from it. It's almost opposite the theatre and museum gardens. (Nice views from theatre cafe overlooking the sea.) A walk to the right takes you towards the harbour and quayside, either the longer but scenic route around a small bay, and circling a hill, or you can go past the shops. The harbour is interesting, and picturesque with the boats, and there was a lovely Aquarium to visit at the end of the little promenade area. Also nice walks round the other side of the harbour and round the hills and bays. Considering we paid such a small price on a Late Deal weekend, we were most pleasantly surprised!

Room Tip: Elderly people or those with mobility problems may struggle on the upper floors! Best to mention if...
