Great place to stay, its quiet and about ten minutes walk in to the town. Much more like a small hotel than your average B&B. Lovely old Victorian building that’s been brought up to date but they have tried hard to keep the sense of the Victorian charm. Very pleasant rooms with very clean, modern en suite showers, nice white cotton towels too. Beds were comfortable with crisp white linen. They seem to have a range of room types (we snuck a peep in a couple!). What they refer to as standard rooms were smallish but very adequate for a one or two night stopover if you are travelling on a bit of a budget. The premium rooms (which is what we stayed in) were bigger and better value for money. They had a four poster bed in one room, don’t know what this cost but it would have made an anniversary weekend a little bit special. The dinning room was pleasant with plenty of tables, usual sort of service, you helped yourselves to cereals and fruit juice, then a waitress would appear after a couple of minutes to take your breakfast order. The breakfast menu was much better than most with plenty of choice and variations. Fresh mushrooms and tomatoes, proper butter, sausages with a bit of flavour, big eggs. None of those awful individual plastic portions of jam, mustard etc. it was all in glass jars.
The hotel has its own very pleasant wooded gardens to the rear with a stream running through it. Lots of birds during the day and a noisy owl at night!
The coast footpath is just across the road and although it’s a bit steep getting up there the views and the walks are stunning. The local beach is approached through a tunnel and there is a small charge for entry but well worth it. The sandy beach of Woolacombe bay is ten minutes by car. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of very good places to eat in the area. We stayed four days but whished we had stayed a bit longer.
The owners are very friendly and make you feel welcome and it was much better than most places we stayed. We would definately stay again.
