Great place to stay, its quiet and about ten minutes walk in to the town. Much more like a small hotel than your average B&B. Lovely old Victorian building that’s been brought up to date but they have tried hard to keep the sense of the Victorian charm. Very pleasant rooms with very clean, modern en suite showers, nice white cotton towels too. Beds were comfortable with crisp white linen. They seem to have a range of room types (we snuck a peep in a couple!). What they refer to as standard rooms were smallish but very adequate for a one or two night stopover if you are travelling on a bit of a budget. The premium rooms (which is what we stayed in) were bigger and better value for money. They had a four poster bed in one room, don’t know what this cost but it would have made an anniversary weekend a little bit special. The dinning room was pleasant with plenty of tables, usual sort of service, you helped yourselves to cereals and fruit juice, then a waitress would appear after a couple of minutes to take your breakfast order. The breakfast menu was much better than most with plenty of choice and variations. Fresh mushrooms and tomatoes, proper butter, sausages with a bit of flavour, big eggs. None of those awful individual plastic portions of jam, mustard etc. it was all in glass jars.
The hotel has its own very pleasant wooded gardens to the rear with a stream running through it. Lots of birds during the day and a noisy owl at night!
The coast footpath is just across the road and although it’s a bit steep getting up there the views and the walks are stunning. The local beach is approached through a tunnel and there is a small charge for entry but well worth it. The sandy beach of Woolacombe bay is ten minutes by car. We were pleasantly surprised by the number of very good places to eat in the area. We stayed four days but whished we had stayed a bit longer.
The owners are very friendly and make you feel welcome and it was much better than most places we stayed. We would definately stay again.

This is relatively big for a typical English family run B&B, it's more like a small hotel. But you still get to see the owners from time to time. They were actually quite nice, and helped us organising our itinerary. As the previous review said, we also got keys for the front door and so could get in and out even if the owners were not around.
We booked 2 standard (cheapest) rooms. One was more spacious with 3-piece shower room (see pictures), while the other was a bit too small and had the sink separately in the room. They were both clean and most things had been modernised recently (the shower for example looked new). The floor was carpeted everywhere, including in the shower room.
Breakfast was pleasant, served in a bright and airy room. In addition to the English breakfast there was a selection of cereals and some juices.

The Woodlands bed & breakfast, situated in the Torrs Park area of Ilfracombe, offers good value at a moderate price. A particularly nice feature of this place is the terraced garden, which backs onto a lovely river. The owners are a nice family who cheerfully answer questions.

The room was clean and comfortable, with windows that opened wide for fresh air. The walk-in shower had good water pressure and there was a separate sink in the bedroom.

Breakfasts offered generous portions of the traditional fare, along with a buffet of cereals, fruit, and juices. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Guests were provided with a front door key along with their room key. The hotel is situated a short walk from High Street, although there are a number of hills along the way which require a little bit of fitness. Street parking is plentiful. The harbour is a longer walk, but not impossible since the other attractions of the town are on the way there.

Extras like laundry were not available - although there is a coin laundromat on Wilder Road a short drive away. If there were any drawbacks to this place, they would have to be the almost continuous noise from the aggressive seagulls who nest on the roof...this was most annoying. There was occasional noise from the room above - creaky floors and someone talking loudly on a telephone! Also, there is no house telephone except for the cell phone carried by the owners, who gladly share it when they can be found. There is no one on front desk duty, but the front door is kept locked.
