Recommended by a friend who has had many a good meal at this restaurant but on this occasion failed to impress!
Lovely surroundings, warm and cosy with an open fire and a nice atmosphere. The staff were attentive but the food did not match up! We were a table of six, the staters were served promptly and were all very tasty. The main courses followed quickly after , 2 of our group ordered the rack of lamb which was not cooked as ordered (rare) and very tough! In fairness to the waitress, she was very apologetic and 2 new portions were brought along, which although cooked as requested were still very chewy! Others meals were very fussy with too much going on on the plate.
We eat out regularly, are happy to pay for quality food and good service but in my opinion The Plantagenet is overpriced, the food did not come up to expectation and I certainly will not be repeating the experience.
We were offered complimentary drinks.

Asked someone who lives in the area to recommend a fish restaurant 'The Plantagenet ' is a must we were told. Down the High Street, turn left by The Lifeboat pub you can't go wrong. At the end of the tiny pane was a quirky little place. Packed because it was Saturday night but find you a table soon. Except for the incident with another customer accidentally breaking my friends toe by knocking over a bar stool what an experience. Had a drink downstairs. The eccentric owner constantly telling us we were next and he was going to sit us in the chimney was part of the experience. The building was obviously centuries old and the menu looked expensive. Meat , fish and veggie diners catered for. Booked both courses after being asked several times. Shown to our table up stairs. Wondered why there was a child standing by me looking up and saying come and look Dad. Then I looked up and could only see darkness. The owner was not mad. We were sat in the old chimney which was apparently 35 feet tall (unfortunately the spot light bulbs were not working). All night we could not stop looking up as well as around us. The chimney and other parts of the building are apparently 11th century (that is Dooms Day Book). The food was absolutely fantastic as well. Crab fish cakes and scallops for starters . Sea Bass, Hake and Halibut main meals which were huge, a round of drinks, 2 bottles of wine and coffees for £160. Expensive normally, but quality of food and surroundings made this a reasonable evening with great memories. You must go. If my friend buys his property in Tenby I will be a regular.h

We passed this place on our first night in Tenby and it looks gorgeous inside - all cosy and candlelit tables. The menu outside looked impressive and we weren't put off by the steep prices as we love food and a good meal is worth paying for in our opinion!
As it was quite late on the Saturday night, we asked if we could just have a drink and were told no as they could only serve alcohol with food. We decided to go there for a meal on the Sunday night and the restaurant was all but empty.
The waitresses are not the friendliest and for somewhere so pricey compared to competitors around it, it lacked that special type of service you would expect. We were offered the worst table in the house, by the drafty door even though there was only one other couple in there. I asked for somewhere else and was offered a better table. The food was nice, but not quite the quality you'd expect for the prices. I had the halibut and the sauce was very thick, like it had been left out a while.

There was nothing really to complain about, but you can eat a lot better in Tenby for a lot less. May I suggest The Mooring...fabulous food at half the price.

A little bit expensive but the quality speaks for itself. Lovely staff and environment. Food is to a high standard and could not ask for better. Lovely quiet space with candlelight. Would absolutely go back when next in Tenby.
