This was a lovely, relaxing boat trip around Caldey Island and St Margaret's Island. I enjoyed the trip, however it was often difficult to hear the guide talking, which was rather disappointing as I felt I was missing out on hearing interesting information. I was also disappointed that it was all in English. I would have much preferred commentary in Welsh. I went on a boat trip in France recently and they had audio guides with a choice of languages, which is a much better idea, and it means you can hear all the commentary clearly. Also, the guide needs to learn how to pronounce Welsh place names properly - the Welsh for Caldey is not the French for butter!!!
The Eskabelle is s lovely , large , clean boat. We boarded for the evening sunset cruise and waited in anticipation. There was no welcome on board, no itinery for the evening, no information about the journey or the bar or the places we were passing along the coast. Just nothing!! Very disappointing in that respect. They are quick to take your money though and finally say thank you at the end of the tour. (Were they then expecting a tip?)
Recently went on the seal safari around Caldy Island, the island was great and we saw plenty of seals! The guide was brilliant obviously had a great knowledge and interest in the wildlife and coastline. Great value for money!
Very professional operation. Guide called matt very informative. Saw loads of seals and birds including puffins swimming. Jet boat very fast, clean and safe. Kids and parents had a great time and good value. Nice walk around the beautiful tenby afterwards. Highly recommend.
Pleasant 90 minute trip aboard Eskabelle on a beautifully sunny and hot day
- informative about wildlife
- offer of refreshments
- gorgeous scenery
- friendly crew
- great prices
My only gripe - there was talk of Puffins on the advert, the mention that there were only 20 in existence when on board, but no apparent opportunity to see them, which disappointed our son somewhat because he saw plenty of other sea birds... having said that, we were lucky to have a distant, quick glance of a seal (having been informed we were in a good spot to start looking out for them!)
We choose this cruise since we preferred not to land on Caldey Island. The advantage of using this boat is the quick transfer across to Caldey Island thus maximising the time spent seal and bird watching. It's a bit more expensive but well worth it.
