The Esplanade Hotel is a very quaint old 14 roomed private hotel right on the esplanade overlooking the beach. The hotel is within walking distance to all you would want to see in Tenby and many pubs, shops cafe's and restaurants.
The hotel has 3 stories but Peter helped us up the stairs with our luggage (no lift).
The owners were very helpful and friendly.
Wifi is free but only works well in the sitting room.
The seaview rooms at the front of the hotel all have great views but we had room 12 a corner room on the 1st floor which had 2 street lights shinning into both windows until 4.30am not good if you like a dark room to sleep.
The bedroom was a goodsize, clean and airy with lovely decor and the windows opened so we could smell all that lovely sea air. The bed was very comfortable, pillows average. There was also tea and coffee making facilities in the room.
The bathroom was small but adequate, clean with complementary toiletries.
Breakfast was served in the breakfast room with views of the ocean. there was a selection of juice, cereal, fruit, yogurt, tea and coffee as well of your choice of a fully cooked breakfast. All very nice.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Esplanade and would recommend to anyone agile enough to climb the stairs to stay here when in Tenby.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the lower floor, but if sensitive to light when sleeping do not get a corner room...

We`re glad you enjoyed your stay, we`ve just replaced the carpet in that room. I think black out linings may be an option, although no else has ever mentioned this. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your tour.

Very old- need a re-vamp. The location is good but the whole hotel needs a bit of TLC. The owners are friendly but the rooms are very tired, the bathroom was tiny and our window was smashed. The breakfast room seemed tired and there was no elevator- which makes it very hard when you have heavy bags and are on the fourth floor.

Thank you for your feedback, we are in a rolling programme of refurbishing the building, the entire exterior and a number of bedrooms will all be refurbished through this autumn, winter and spring. A little confused re. your room, we do not have a fourth floor, our highest is the third floor which does not have any 'smashed' windows. We do not have a lift and obviously do not advertise one. If you book online, our top floor rooms are clearly marketed as ' High Floor', book direct and we always explain the rooms location and number of stairs involved, help is always available with heavy bags if required.

We stayed during September 2013 and had a wonderful time. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Our double room was a good size with a fantastic view of the sea. Spotlessly clean with wonderful linen - where do they get it from? I want some!

We ate far too many cakes - they were delicious and irresistible! Home cooked as well!

We will be going back and will recommend it to all our friends.

Thank you for a wonderful stay!

I rarely write a review but was so angry with the previous review I thought I should give you a more balamced view. I stayed at the Esplanade for one night due to a business trip. What a delightful surprise to find such a lovely hotel with the most wonderful views overlooking the Beach. The staff were so friendly and attentive on arrival and I actually loved the tea/room bar area that also had complimentary wifi so I could send a few emails with out any extra costs.
The room was excellent and as comfy a bed as i have ever slept in. The morning brought the view once again and an absolutely delicious breakfast. Bravo to all at the Esplanade - I will be back with my family!!

On arrival my heart dropped even from the outside this hotel is in serious need of a refurb..then you walk in threw the door and your met with the darkest dreariest tearoom iv ever been in with throwback to the 70s crazy patterned carpet threw out the entire hotel,to the dark wood scruffy furniture its awful.

The gentleman on reception was so unwelcoming and hardly spoke a word...we were shown to our room by the landlady owner who was quite pleasant and chatty.
our room was on the top floor which is a long way up and tiring u need a oxygen mask.. would not suit the elderly at all.

The family room we stayed in was not good small bathroom with sloping attic roof difficult for hubby to pee without hitting his head of which I did while in the shower.
this is 2 rooms in 1.. 2 singles in one room with a huge old dark wardrobe leaning at an awkward angle against the wall, looks like all the furniture is from a second hand shop...then the other part of the room has a double bed a small single window with sea view which is completely ruined by the amount of pigeons and pigeon poo everywhere outside the window gross spoilt the view completely.
was worried as no fire escape too!
totally overpriced for the state of place!
So as you can gather this hotel is not my cup of tea so save yr money and go elsewhere. I reserve the right to my opinion!!!!!

Sorry, but on the whole a rather innaccurate review. Firstly the accurate part, yes the exterior needs refurbishing, given our sea front location the building takes a battering from the elements and needs repainting every three years, this will be done this winter. Your opinion of the tea rooms aren't widely held, the carpet is a traditional, conservatively coloured, patterned axminster, you make it out to be loud and garish which certainly it is not.The furniture is on the whole in very good condition and is keeping with the style and age of the building and period features within.
Your room was on the third floor, if you book online it was clealy marked as a high floor family room without a lift, book direct with us and the room's location is always emphasised, hence we don't get elderly people staying in those rooms, not sure why you reserved this room if you have a problem with stairs!.
Given our location birds do land on the exterior from time to time, and yes, they do what birds do. We have now taken steps to reduce this.
We are in the middle of a refurbishment programme , 6 of 14 rooms having had new carpet, curtains and soft furnishings. This winter we will refurb a similar number of rooms, including the room you were in.
With reference to no fire escape, we have automatic fire detectors in all rooms and corridors (there were two in your room) Along with the fire doors protecting all means of escape, the local fire authority do not require us to have a fire escape in that area. I trust their expertise in fire safety, maybe you should too, as to suggest otherwise is potentially libellous.

On leaving our last hotel in tenby (IT WAS BOOKED FOR US) and had having an awful night. We decided to look for a miracle at the last moment and hence The esplanade came to our rescue. We asked for any family accomodation going and found ourselves in the apartment next door. Wow it was fantastic. There was a four poster, sumptious bed setee for our daughter and a spa bath. We could not have been happier and theway that The Esplanade went out of our way was great. Idont know about you but it is still nice to see service is great.

Room Tip: The apartment on the front is great value at £100.00 a night and the view is nothing short of great.
