“Bowls trip in the sunshine room a nightmare!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 September 2012

Stayed here during bowls trip 1st week of September, staff nice food good, but the room was awful,I know they are refurbishing the rooms but some rooms should be closed until completed.
Our room 404 was a horrible place just enough room to squeeze through the space at the end of the bed and the wall! One window that did not shut properly overlooking the car park, the bathroom was no bigger, the room was grubby and should not be let to paying customers,I asked for a move on 3 occasions and was told no we are full, not convinced!! If you do stay here and are given a key with 404 on it my advice ask for another room if like us you are told no hand the key back and leave.

Room Tip: Avoid room 404

Stayed for one night at the Giltar Hotel in September 2012. The hotel was welcoming, with really helpful staff who really would do all they could to help you out. Twin room was fairly small, which was really the only disappointing thing about the stay. Beds were comfy, room clean, view excellent and breakfast superb.
Room a little pricey for what we got, so probably wouldn't stay there again on same terms, but if we managed to get a better room or deal then would.

had problems parking the car car park was very small but manager moved his car for us to use the space so i thought that was nice of him..checking in very easy, on entering the lift lovely photos of refurbished rooms so on entering our room what a shock very small and narrow just enough space to walk at the end of the bed we could plainly hear the people in the next room, at one point i thought they were in the room with us..obviously our room had been divided into two...the toilet and shower really needed totally upgrading dont think it had been decorated for a long time.
ypu couldnt sit and relax to enjoy the view from your room as there were two chairs pushed into the corner of the room with no leg room
the only positive thing was the food the evening meal and the breakfast were very good with a good choice

Room Tip: make sure you get a refurbished room

loved this place- obviously massive ongoing refurb which is being done tastefully and well- obviously not all rooms have been refurbished yet but this is reflected in the prices charged for different room types

Great views-clean rooms-nice food-friendly staff-what more do you want

PS our light bulbs were not dusty!

We stayed for a wedding we attended.
Firstly, the parking situation IS terrible, the car park is miniscule and where ever you go in the immediate area there is residents parking so we had to park quite far away and lug our bags back and forth with wasn't very practical - not to mention rather expensive paying for parking!

we had called in advance and asked for our room to be ready for 11 oclock so we could have plenty of time to get ready for the wedding, and we checked in at about 11:20, and it was ready.
We went up in the wobbly lift and our room was right next to the lift which was handy but also noisy as the doors close very loudly, as do the normal doors. not good at 7 in the morning when you have a hangover! the walls are very thin, i was woken up by someone asking their child if they had their bucket and spade for the beach, while they were waiting for the lift.

our room was a deluxe premier one. it is well presented and spacious. i did notice cobwebs on the beside lamp shades and a build of dust on the bulbs. The curtains are stiff and hard to close. didnt manage to fully close them so i think a few people had a glimpse of parts of me not usually shown as i was getting ready for the wedding, even with the curtains closed!
theres a cushioned bench and 2 chairs facing the lovely sea view, which have seen better days. weird brown stains on them, but they were ok for sitting on i guess, reasonably comfortable.

the bed is meant to be super kingsize, i think its as wide as one but not as long. we have one at home and our feet dont hang over the end of ours but they did in the hotel one! the pillows are rock hard and i hardly got any sleep because of this!

theres a well stocked tea/coffee tray (no sweetner though) and bottles of water next to the bed. a handy bin next to the vanity desk too.

the bathroom was lovely to look at. not pratical to use though. i burned my leg getting in the bath as the taps were so hot, and i burned my arm in the shower because the controls for the shower were also scorching hot. the shower was a bit random, a good flow of water but they
jets were coming out at all sorts of angles. theres a little cubby bit to put your shower stuff in but its so small you can only fit in the mini bottles of shower gel and shampoo the hotel provides you with. anything else just doesnt work!
you are provided with a bath mat but with wet feet the floor feels dangerous to walk on, really slippery.

the ceremony was held in a room on the front of the hotel and although the windows were open, it was boiling in there and you hear bin men and holiday makers making noise outside the window.

while we were eating the buffet, one of the people on my table had some of the sweet things laid out and the manager came over and told him off for having it, as it wasnt time to have it yet. the person said a member of staff told him he could have it. the manager then asked him to name and shame the member of staff! he didnt though!!!

in the dining room there is a bigger than normal step to get down into and as someone in the wedding party was in a wheel chair, a ramp was provided. it was a very steep ramp so pushing the wheel chair up it was a real effort, and when they brought the elderly lady back down the ramp, it was so steep she unfortunately fell out of her wheel chair and landed head first on the floor. there was quite a lot of blood and an ambulance had to be called. it was all very unfortunate and i saw no members of staff coming to assist, or even apologise or offer to call the ambulance.

the bar was stuffy and dark and the aircon wasnt on, even though there was some.
but, all in all, we enjoyed the wedding and as the groom mentioned in his speech, its not the place, but the people who make it. i can see why people chose to get married here, with it being so close to the sea and the lovely views.

Stayed for one night to see if it would make a great venue for our wedding next year. We were very pleased with what we found as all the important rooms have fantastic sea veiws of Caldey. Our room, an upgraded one was great with lovely furniture and that view! With the sound of the sea in my ears it was the best night's sleep I've had in ages. The food was excellent and we found the staff to be so friendly and helpful, my partner and I were sad to leave. We are very excited to be having our wedding here next year as the other "small" wedding venues could not match The Giltar Hotel for location and friendly service!!

Room Tip: Go for the upgraded rooms with sea views and you can hear the sea too!
