“Disappointing ”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

We spent one night here as part of a walking holiday. I telephoned ahead to ask if we could pay for an upgrade. I also asked about a table for dinner, but was informed there was no need to book. The hotel was full but they could upgrade us to the only room left that had a sea view instead of a car park view. I took that. The room was clean but it really shouldn't be marketed as a twin room, far too small. On arrival staff were friendly although no porterage offered. The public areas are pleasant. After a walk we returned at 7:30 for dinner, only to be told as there was a private function food wasn't available. No offer of a plate of sandwiches, no nothing! Breakfast was available and reasonable, but the fact that residents couldn't get dinner unforgivable. Wouldn't stay there again

We're sorry to hear that you feel your stay was disappointing. We currently don't advertise a porter service, however if you were to mention on reception we'd have been more than happy to get one of our staff to provide assistance. On check-in you would have been advised of the dining room situation that evening as it is routine for us to inform all new guests. Our reception staff would have also advised of local restaurants available within a short walk of the hotel for a hot meal. We apologise for any confusion.

A great hotel, friendly staff and great food. Fantastic location for a Wedding. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff particularly Roger who looked after us very well for a family wedding. The room was decorated beautifully for the ceremony and the wedding breakfast. It is the second family I have attended in three years standards are still very high. Anyone thinking of a wedding at a hotel in South Wales should definitely consider the Giltar.

We had a room that was awaiting the refurb so it could have done with a spruce up but for the price we couldn't really complain , lovely breakfast and the staff were really friendly & helpful :-) Drink prices at the bar were really reasonable too and overall we had a good stay !!

Room Tip: Choose a room with a sea view and that has been done up :-)

Myself and my fiancee booked in for one night (couldn't book a second as the hotel was full). A brilliant room, double aspect with sea views from both windows. We even managed to get a spot in the car park. The food was lovely (evening meal and breakast) and very reasonably priced. We will definitley stay again. The staff were also very helpful and corteous. Only one minor niggle whilst the wifi was free (and accesible in all rooms) it was not very reliable.

Room Tip: Choose 114 or 214 for great views

Thanks for taking the time to write a review. We're currently looking into the reliability of the Wifi in the hotel and hopefully it will have improved by the next time you visit.

Nothing was too much trouble for this hotel. Staff were competent and helpful. The only hotel that offered to obtain goat milk when I said I cannot use cow milk. Food portions great and excellent quality. Rooms newly refurbished and made the best of the sea views.

Room Tip: Not all rooms refurbished. Rooms on lower levels may have noise if there is a disco

My husband and I spent one night at the Giltar Hotel. The afternoon reception staff were very nice, the bedroom was small, but extremely clean, breakfast was excellent. I would recommend this hotel, and look forward to staying again.

We visited the hotel for a birthday celebration meal with our family last week. The friendly warm welcome meant everyone warmed to the place. The hotel is well kept with light airy comfortable and well appointed lounges and a beautiful location on the sea front at Tenby. There is parking for about 10 cars at the rear of the Hotel.

The menu looked good and I ordered the mushrooms for a starter. What came was a few sliced mushrooms swamped in a rather tasteless heavy sauce which was served on mushy bead accompanied by some very tired salad trimmings. Contrast this to the mushrooms at another fairly local hotel, the Wolfscastle, near Fishguard. There I ate juicy little whole mushrooms, enhanced by tasty light source, full of flavour and accompanied by delicious home made bread served separately to cater for taste.

The main course I had was the roast lamb. A very good selection of vegetables, The creamed leaks were lovely, and the broccoli was also well cooked. The new potatoes were perfectly served not over cooked and the roasties were crisp but the lamb was sliced, and although tender, the flavour was somehow masked by the gravy. I know gravy is difficult to get right. But the juice of the meat needs to flow through to get full flavour and if this was to happen, the meal would be very good indeed.

The Strawberry cheesecake was full flavoured but with a too heavy base, which needed to be cut heavily.

I do not want to sound too negative about this lovely hotel. The food is more than acceptable but it could be even better. And I felt it was okay writing a review of this kind in the hope that the hotel could respond and go from very good to excellent.
