The Ramada Plaza is situated right on the promenade of Southport adjacent to the bridge and the longest pier that I have ever seen it is also very conveniently situated for the local shopping and nightlife. On arrival I had to ask someone for directions to the underground car park as it is not signposted very well but is very convenient and free parking is always a bonus. From the car park you can directly access the Hotel either by stairs or via the lift. It is strange that you have to go to the first floor to go to reception as there is only an empty room with a lift on the ground floor that leads on to the promenade. This aside when we arrived at reception we were greeted with a smile and even though we were quite early the receptionist who was very polite and professional found us a room that was vacant and allowed us to check in. She also explained where everything could be found and informed us that we could always book anything else as required. The hotel itself was very impressive with all areas looking clean and comfortable and a nice outdoor area with tables and chairs where you could sit and watch the world go by.
When we got to our room we had a nice view of the lake and further on to Blackpool.
On to the room as you would expect from an hotel of this kind very clean and bright with a very comfortable bed and a very nice duvet, sleeping was no problem also helped by a nice quiet location. There was a good sized LCD TV with all freeview channels plenty of storage space and not only Tea/Coffee making facilities but also a refrigerator tucked away in a cupboard beneath the TV ideal for cooling drinks. The bathroom was very nice with an excellent shower. We did not eat in the hotel but I was told by other guests that the food was good and quite reasonably priced.
This was our first time in Southport and very different to what was expected nothing like Blackpool. The town is a lot cleaner and more tasteful not full of tat shops and a whole lot cleaner with nice places to eat and drink but with still plenty to do including a boating lake ,pitch and putt course and a fair that is positioned out of the way. There is also a good selection of shops bars and places to eat.
All in all we were well impressed with both the Ramada Plaza and Southport and look forward to visiting again.

I used to live in Southport so saw this being built. It is clean and well planned good rooms with good facilities.
BUT . . . and it is a bit but the food is poor, for a 4 star hotel (which it advertises itself as) there was no a la carte menu which is not what would be expected. the roll was stale, the food tepid and not very appetising, there were children running around the resturant and all in all it was not a good experience - the breakfast buffet had not been cleared away by 8pm and there was juice and dirty crockery still on the counter - once again not a standard that would be expected.
I would stay here again for the room but I would eat elsewhere as it was so poor

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel, I am glad that the accommodation was to your requirments but equally I am dissappointed that on this occasion the food was below your expectations ,

I can assure you that your comments regarding the Marine Brasserie will be discussed with the food and beverage team and I am confident that in particular Breakfast Buffet had not been left out and that the other issues highligted will be addressed with imediate effect.

Kind regards

This hotel is a perfect example of the modern bland chain hotel. You could be in Scunthorpe, Stockholm or Sheffield and get the same experience. It's a good job that that experience is pretty darn spot on then.

The facilities are excellent and clean; the breakfast is plentiful and tasty; the staff are plastic smiled charming efficiency without any eccentricty. Any staff showing that would have it beaten out of them by some beak nosed corporate suit and have it replaced with efficient robotic precision.

This hotel is superbly placed on the promenade within a 5 minute walk of Lord street and 15 minutes of the showground. Our room had superb views of the arena and a very comfy bed.

You can find the car park by taking a left after crossing the bridge, left and left again behind the theatre.

Look, don't expect the country house feel. Expect a first class bed, clean comfy accomodation, lovely bathroom and efficient staff. if it's chintz and charm look elsewhere.

Stayed from Sunday-Friday and thoroughly enjoyed it. This is a very modern hotel, in an ideal location. It is situated on the Promenade next to the theatre and Pier, and very central for everything. Car parking is underneath the hotel, which was good, plus there were plenty spaces. Check in was easy. The rooms are very comfortable, and well maintained, the bonus being they have a fridge, which was great. We were booked for bed and breakfast, but had dinner in the hotel twice. Breakfast the first morning was a bit of a disaster. It was a buffet as you would expect, but the food was not being replenished quickly enough, so we had to wait about 10 minutes. The staff were very apologetic. When we did eat, the food was fine, with a good selection. This only happened once, and we noticed that the following moring Management Staff were monitoring everything very, very carefully, so problem was recitified. As I said we had dinner twice and thoroughly enjoyed it, food was lovely, and service was fine. No complaints at all. The hotel has a lovely sun terrace, which has nice views of the water front, it is a very pleasant area to sit with a drink, or sit and relax. Found the whole atmosphere of the hotel very relaxing, and staff were very chatty, and willing to help. If I was visiting Southport again, this is certainly the hotel which I would use, and would have no hesistation in recommending it to anyone else. Very, very enjoyable stay, Well done Ramada!!

A reasonable welcome from the reception staff. They were more helpful about things in the town than they were about the hotel. The problem with this hotel is that it has an underground car park that is just so easy to use once you know, but very difficult to find if you don't, i.e upon arrival. The architect who designed this otherwise very good hotel decided for whatever strange reason to put reception on the first floor. You actually arrive from the entrance into a well presented but useless hallway and have to go upstairs to register. A sign giving car parking arrangements etc in this entrance lobby would be so helpful. Even better would be that reception staff greet you... in the entrance? and assist you to park your car by giving simple advice and sympathetic instruction
In case you need to know - with the hotel on your left take the first left about 100m down the road, and then left again at the sea/lake front. you can see the underground entrance ahead. Park up and take the lift to floor 1.

Our room however was of an excellent standard with modern fittings and decent TV with all freeview channels and free internet access, although we found the wireless connection down. The bed was very very comfortable and only spoilt by the huge hot duvet. We were really happy with our room.
The Bar staff were first class. I watched the guy in charge receiving his glasses from the wash area. He inspected each one and polished it with a cloth before shelving it. Clearly proud of his bar.
Dinner was of variable quality. I had the Pork with mash and onions. Nice, but it needed some fresh vegetables to lighten it. My wife had the Mousaka which was served with not only a salad but a large bowl of potatoes!. Each was well cooked and presented but we felt that in neither case was the balance of the dish well thought out. Again, the tomato and mozarella salad starter was OK but lacked real flavour, whilst my squid were overcooked and not wonderful. The wine was outstanding, but not cheap. Nobody approached us who had an understanding of what wines they had. The main problem was having to wait nearly 40 minutes for the main course on a night when they were not that busy.
Breakfast was good and we were well cared for.

We liked this hotel. Its cleanliness, location and breakfast were 5 star. Staff were friendly and worked hard. perhaps they lacked leadership and quality management. We paid approx £110 a night and felt that was about right. Full price is too expensive. If you can get a reduced rate then stay here and enjoy a good hotel.

If all this sounds too critical then my review has not struck the right note. This hotel is really nice. Its just that it could be really outstanding with a few adjustments.
