Description: Michaela and I opened Bistrot Verite in 2009, after working and travelling around France we loved the Ambiance of the Small, Cosy, Rustic Bistrots that you find tucked away in Provincial towns. With this in mind we have tried to create this in our home town of Southport in Birkdale Village. We serve Rustic French food but with a few dishes thrown in from around the world when I get bit Cheffy!!! Our Restaurant may not be to everybody's taste as it is small and can get noisy but to us this is what the hustle and bustle of what a Bistrot should be. We have a Great team of Professionals who look forward to Welcoming and Serving you. Bon Vivant xxxx Marc & Michaela Verite xx

We have eaten here a few times now and it's always busy. Reasonably priced with good quality of food. The food is excellent!!! If I'm being very picky, staff could take your coat and top up your glass when it's empty, but I'm not too fussed on that and like the laid back charm of the place. If your planning on going you have to book and quite a bit in advance too.

Without question the food is wonderful, and I expect to pay more for quality, however the restaurant is small and if you have any kind of disability then you may have issues. I couldn't take my Mum here as it is too cramped. The toilets are up quite a flight of steep stairs and NO way are they safe for any older person who is unstable unless you accompany them.

Let me begin by stating clearly that I am in full agreement with the many favourable reviews which Bistrot Verite has had: the food is very good. Four of us enjoyed a variety of main courses none of which was less than good; my confit duck on a bed of lentils was delicious and perfectly cooked, with crisp skin and succulent meat; Tony's dover sole was equally splendid. Service was attentive without being over- zealous.

However, the disabled access about which my wife explicitly enquired when she booked, and which the restaurant claimed it possessed, was disappointing, as was the defensive attitude of the member of staff who had taken the booking. it is very difficult to get a wheelchair into this restaurant, as it has a narrow entrance with a 90 degree turn between two doors, as well as a six inch outside step to negotiate. Tony had to get out of his wheelchair to enable us to get the wheelchair out and in. And then it turned out that there was no downstairs toilet! Being told "You didn't enquire about that," was not particularly helpful as we had to leave in a hurry to find an accessible toilet for Tony!

All in all, it was a pleasant experience, however, and I will go again - but I think I'll wait till Tony's back on his feet.

What a find. we have lived in this area for 5 years and never tried this restaurant. It is without a doubt the best we have found so far. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Gets very busy a testiment to their quality. A little expensive but well worth the money. Booking well in advance an absolute must.
