“Why have I not told you about this gem before?”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

Sorry do not know why it has taken me so long to review. We have been visiting this restaurant regularly as a treat, for birthdays, anniversaries, taken friends, and well, just a happy shopping trip to Southport. One of the best menus I have seen in many a year, with a vast choice of seafood, fresh, visible in the chiller of the open kitchen. Very generous portion sizes, I usually ask for a "small." The salmon, cod and prawn en croute is delicious, fish and chips, enormous. My personal favourite is the beef (or chicken, or mushroom and cashew nut) Stroganoff, with a full bodied sauce rather than the anaemic ones in other restaurants. Served with rice or chips, and always the best of fresh veg. Rarely have room for desserts, might try a starter and dessert next time. Just look at the menu: http://www.forgebrasserie.co.uk/index.html
It is out of the way, and down a side street, so no brilliant view of the sea, but the quality of the food, friendliness of the staff, and really nice clientelle more than make up for it. My husband particularly recommends the house red wine.
Thank you again for a great lunch. Wish we lived closer, then we could have dinner with you. Perhaps I will book an hotel next time.

“spur of the moment visit”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

this was a spur of the moment meal out after several of my friends had recommended it to us, food was fresh and appealing, you can see it being cooked from the open kitchen, you can also choose the fresh seafood before it it cooked for you, staff were very attentive and friendly. decore is old fashioned but very cosy, lots of wooden beams etc.

“Okay?”
Reviewed 3 June 2014

I'm not going to lie, this place although the staff are lovely people and the food delicious to a point, the environment did not hit me as a nice place to banter with my friends and family.

Would recommend for the food and staff, not so much anything else.

“An excellent seafood pasta”
Reviewed 30 May 2014

This was another good meal at the Forge. Went for the early menu which represented excellent value for money. Had the seafood pasta which was quite superb. Plenty of seafood and a perfect sauce.
