Booked a double room for our anniversary and was not expecting much after reading the reviews here but as we had already booked, took a chance. what a lovely surprise we had when our double room turned out to be a suite with lovely big windows looking onto lord street. the rooms do need a little face lift but it is a very interesting building and you can imagine it in its hey day. breakfast was buffett style and was okay! staff were very friendly. the only comment which is negative is the £2 per night car park charge. this should be free for residents. x

Went on a national holiday 3 day visit to southport and stayed in this hotel. We couldn't have been more satisfied, the food was great with plenty of choice, and the staff were very helpful, the room was a bit in need of decorating, but was spotlessly clean,I definitely would stay there again.

we stayed at this hotel in a double superior room on the 20/5/12. Hotel interesting but looking tired in places. Room was clean and bathroom very modern with excellent shower.Bed was very uncomfortable as you could feel the springs under the mattress so we did not sleep well Big let down was the breakfast, it is a buffet breakfast with a good choice. We went down for breakfast early but on getting a selection and sitting down withing few mins found the breakfast to be stone cold and not edible. The coffee given was also luke warm. Left the restaurant hungry and ended up getting hot food elsewhere. Loved staying in southport but would stay elsewhere if we go again.

Have stayed here a few times now and the location is fabulous. It's right at the end of Lord Street and great for a relaxing weekends shopping and browsing without the need for the car.
They do have their own car park which they charge £2 a day for parking on top of the bill.

The hotel is cheap and cheerful, but can be very noisy at weekends. If you book early ask for a room away from the ballrooms or function suites or you won't get any sleep at all until after 1am.

Breakfast is a help yourself buffet and always well stocked and hot. Good selection of different foods, though I have to say the odd smile from the waitress wouldn't hurt. They look rushed off their feet and seem to have perpetual scowls, no time for any pleasantries or even a "good morning"
The whole hotel ethos is rather impersonal, a kind of stack 'em high and sell them cheap philosophy so if you expect top notch service this hotel isn't for you.

The rooms are large and spacious though the fixtures and fittings are very dated and in desperate need of a makeover. Windows painted shut, wall paper peeling off the walls, ancient bathroom suites with the fixtures hanging off all contribute to a "Hotel Paradiso" type feeling. It's a shame as this grand old lady of a hotel could be simply breathtaking if they bothered with her upkeep.

It's not a high end hotel so if you want top notch service and a swanky room try the "Vincent" farther down the high street. For me as a place to lay my head it's ok, just ok, but could be so much better.

This hotel is another example of a hotel that has had a glorious past! Having said that it is still comfortable and a pleasant place to stay. The room was clean but a little cold at night. The evening meal was tastless in our opinion and the breakfast was OK but all in all a value 1 night stay at a hotel with great ambiance.
