“A new favourite”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2014 via mobile

Returned again with friends to have lush leek and potato soup followed by tarragon chips with loads veg and home made chips. All beautiful well presented food. Never had dessert but they looked lovely and decent portion with plenty variety. Worth seeking out this place and nice and handy to park in sainsburys car park opposite at night.

“Hidden gem, says my brother; it is!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 January 2014

First visit to the Lansdowne, situated on Post office Ave by Sainsbury's car park, was a very nice experience. We went on recommendation of my brother who had visited once before. We had the Tuesday set menu with 4 choices for each course at £40 for 2 people including a bottle of wine. I was expecting a good meal but certainly not one of the standard received. The pate was creamy and flavoursome, the smoked salmon was excellent and the portions enough to fill most hungry diners. Pork loin, tender, succulent and tasty with a good portion of veg and potatoes to follow. The desserts were very good and different. Ice cream in a brandy snap with berries. The cheese plate was also very good with 3 very good portions of cheese and plenty of biscuits.

The atmosphere is very relaxing, the waiters unobtrusive but attentive and the cooking excellent. Although the house wine it was very pleasant and very drinkable. All in all one to recommend and if you haven't been do so.

“Overrated”

Booked tyndalls after reading reviews had the sat night set menu at £49.99 for two people for three courses. The actual tyndalls isn't open anymore so had to ask around to find the bistro side of it not a good start when your not from southport only visiting for weekend.the meal itself was nice but I expected better after reading about it shan't return if visiting southport again there's better places around for less money

Thank you for your review since this we have changed the address on the site so as no confusion and removed the name Tyndalls from the name, though still run by the Tyndall family. The set menu at 49.95 is three courses for two ppl and includes a bottle of wine which we think is reasonable were sorry you didn't enjoy your experience! But have made changes to the page so nobody has the problems you had!

“Delicious”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2013

Second time here and not disappointed. Same set menu on Thursday night 2 courses for £15.50 which whilst it's hardly a bargain was beautifully cooked and presented. Friends had variety of starters including smoked salmon salad which I must confess gave me plate envy. Followed by chicken pie, veg and chips all good sized portions and I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert (rather than a starter) . Everyone was happy and enjoyed it. Only criticism is I had to ask what desserts were as although it two courses and you can have starter or dessert I don't think they encourage this. Worth a visit.

“Always superb!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 August 2013 via mobile

We've been going to Tyndalls & now the Lansdowne for a few years and I can't believe I've never posted a review before. I think I've assumed everyone knows how good it is. Well, in case you don't know.......

Mark and Nicki run a fantastic restaurant and bar. The food is always first class and the menu is really comprehensive offering something for most tastes. For us, the steak, fish and game dishes are superb and never fail to live up to expectations. If you're lucky and its the right time of year you might get game shot by Mark. The best restaurant in Southport in our opinion.

Atmosphere is relaxed, staff are brilliant and wine list is to our taste and not daft prices.

Don't be put off by the modest exterior (as some of our friends who we've taken there have). Once inside you won't be disappointed.
