“DO NOT STAY HERE”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

This hotel is disgusting. My boyfriend booked this as a surprise for my birthday because it had a spa n stuff. Mh god what a surprise it was. As soon as I saw the building I was disappointed. The car park was terrible. We walked into the grubby dated reception that stank of stale ale. I thought oh well the rooms might be a bit better. The landings were scruffy and walls are stained. We were on the fourth floor right at the top of the stairs and there was a very strong smell of canabis outside our room. When we got in it wasn't much better. There was stains all over the carpets. Everywhere was thick with dust. The toilet was disgusting. He paid £89 for this room I wouldn't have paid £8. We went down to reception to find the manager shouting and taunting another guest who had complained. I told them the room was not acceptable we were offered another room. This was no better there were stains on the carpet, mould on the ceilings big stains on the wall. Dirt all over the carpet the wall paper had been ripped off and drawn on. The bathroom was filthy and had ring marks on the side. There was blood stains on the bedding I didn't have the heart to check in the bed. We went back to reception demanded a refund and was told we couldn't have one and had to email customer services which takes 28 days to get a response. What a joke. We were not in the building 15 mins. It is day light robbery how they think charging £89 for a room in that state is acceptable. I would not like to see the state of the spa. Please please avoid this so called hotel

Came with friends for our belated Christmas night out.
Food was very good for the price.
Hot tasty soup to start then chicken with mushroom sauce ,tasty &
succulent with lovely veggies that were not overcooked at all.
Nice roast potatoes.
For pudding we had a nice almond topped cake.
Good service brilliant Night out
We had a great night the singer was excellent doing covers of popular Mowtown songs everyone was up dancing.
He was very entertaining.
However the rest of the hotel was deserted and freezing cold !
No heating on in the Ladies loo or the bar upstairs!
Why ?

Stayed here last night 24th Jan as a quick last minute get away with the wife. Right then firstly my room was clean and adequate.
I was going to get charged to use the spa but argued that it says free to guests staying.....this is on many websites.
sleep was slightly disturbed due to night club.
breakfast was also adequate..all in all not bad.
staff were helpful....they need info in rooms....was sick of asking everything...£45 for one night with breakfast and use of the spa...bargain..

Room Tip: spend more money and go a different hotel

This is a review of Maloneys which is a bar in the Hotel. Do not bother. I cannot believe how we got ripped off in there last Saturday night. We arrived in there about 2030hrs, there was about 6 people in there, we soon found out why. We ordered 2 bottles of Corona which were served warm in plastic glasses with no slice of lime. Who does this these days, we also asked for 2 shot cocktails which the barman took about 30 seconds to make. Total price....get ready for this..£14.65. How on earth they can charge that is beyond me, least of all how did they come to an odd figure for 4 drinks, 2 Coronas and 2 minature shot cocktails which were both the same. The place is also a dump. It needs a lot of money spending on it, it has gone straight downhill. We quickly left and went to the Weatherspoons what used to be Lloyds bar further down the street. What a total transformation. Great music, packed out, great atmosphere, and most importantly loads of offers on drinks which seemed to get cheaper as the night went on NOT dearer as in Maloneys. Get this 3 bottles of Sol WITH a slice of lime and ice cold £5, you can't beat that. For 1 bottle it was £3.55 but for 3 it was a fiver, amazing deals. There were loads of others like that.
TOP TIP - AVOID THE SCARISBRICK/MALONEYS AT ALL COSTS OTHERWISE YOU WILL REGRET IT.

My mum (aged 87) and her friend (aged in her 80s) booked a 4 nights stay over Xmas at the
Scarisbrick and came home a day early. They couldn't stand the cold anymore. 1st room the window kept blowing open, the second radiators didn't work, given a small electric fire which when plugged in kept blowing the fuse box. What should have been a relaxing enjoyable holiday (the 1st since my mum lost her husband), turned out to be a shambles. A bottle of wine was ordered, as a surprise, to be in their room on arrival. not so, it took 3 requests from mum before they were given a bottle of wine. Some surprise!!.

This hotel is a shadow of what it used to be. The rooms are shabby, dated, dirty and cold. To be fair the bedding is clean but that's where it ends. Check the wardrobe before putting any clothes in. The restaurant, if one can call it such, is also dirty and the food is exceptionally poor quality (if there is any left). The staff are extremely unhelpful and management non-existent. If you try to complain you are given the email address for the Britannia Hotels Head Office.
Best thing you can do is report the place to Sefton Borough Council Environmental Health Department and then to Trading Standards who will guide you through the process required to taker this lot to court - you will win !!

I used to work in Southport and have stayed here often in the past. It has never been the fanciest hotel but I can't believe how much it has deteriorated since I was last here.

The first disappointment was that they no longer help with parking. Find a place where you can to park (nowhere).

Breakfast is no longer included in the standard package.

On check in, there was a collection of staff sat on the desks behind reception, swinging their legs and larking about and ignoring the guests.

The "double" room was like a prison cell. The bed didn't even have a headboard. The walls were badly marked and goodness knows what the stains on the ceiling were. Luckily, I was staying alone but the bed was against the wall so a second person would have to climb over the other to get out.

Thankfully, I was going out until the early hours as I wouldn't have slept anyway. The room was next to the classrooms and function room for a very large Christmas party. I was able to hear the conversations of everyone going to breakfast.

I guess you get what you pay for but don't pay for this.
