“Disappointing”
Review of Southport Pier

After moving to Southport when the Pier was closed for £3 million refurb, we were excited to see the updated article on Dec 22nd 2018. However, this date was changed with only hours notice to Dec 26th..After Christmas we walked the new Pier, visited the new cafe and felt disappointed. The cafe looks great but £7 for two cups of coffee is crazy. The amusement arcade is vintage but feels dull and drab. The external Pier remains dull shabby in disrepair and one can only be puzzled at where the money has been spent??!! Wasted opportunity to create a tourist attraction. Where are the pop-up stalls? An embarassment to Southport/Sefton.

Walked along the pier with a visiting friend, it was fairly fresh weather-wise, but we had a lovely stroll. Very clean and great views back to Southport or across to Blackpool

On the final destination or our touring holiday we stayed in Southport. My parents had stayed before on a coach trip and said how nice the place was particularly the pier that is apparently about 1/2 mile long.

It's a bit of an unusual pier as it starts in land kind of away from the promenade. It starts going over the boating lake, through a retail park, over the promenade and then out onto the beach and sea. Other than the arcade at the entrance, its basically a walk way with nothing else on it till the end where there is a small building containing a cafe and small penny arcade. There is also a shuttle train that goes up and down the pier at peak times, for us we found it was called Saturday.

It is worth the walk to the end to visit the penny arcade with old classics to have a go on. There was a lot of them not working unfortunately but It was still great to educate the kids. At the end of the pier you get a great view up and down the coastline, particularly of Blackpool.

The pier unfortunately because of this view comes across as Blackpool's poor cousin who nobody talks about. It's a nice walk but lacks in the entertainment factor piers generally have.

a well maintained pier of a decent length to get a long walk and some fresh sea air with a cafe / amusement arcade at the end for a rest and a drink.

We enjoyed our walk to the end of the pier. The old classic arcade machines are wonderful to see and brought back many childhood memories for us. They only take old pennies but you can put a £1 coin in the change machine and you'll get 10 old pennies that you can use in the old slot machines. If you enjoy some nostalgia you'll find this place worth a visit.
