there is always plenty to see and when you get bored in the hides you can enjoy a walk around the reserve, and you never know what you might spot.

Wonderful, huge reserve spanning many acres, at its peak in winter the number and quality of birds is incredible - but worth a visit at any time of year - give yourself enough time to see it all and take your time to look at all the birds - a great day out!

The hide at Marshside is very well placed for seeing the many marsh, waders and marine birds which live on the coast near Southport. The wardens and other birdwatchers are always helpful and eager to point out things of interest or to share the view through their binoculars or telescopes with other enthusiasts. Apart from the usual ducks, geese etc it is possible to see hawks, little egrets and the elegant avocets from the hide as was shown recently on BBC's Countryfile. There are other viewing points along the Coast Road which offer other chances to see ground-nesting birds such as lapwings so it is no wonder that it is such a popular area for birdwatchers to visit.

As I live nearby i am able to walk along the path that skirts this attraction. It also has hides that you can visit. There is a seating area on Hesketh Road where you can sit and take in the atmosphere, and watch the wildlife.
