“Nice new pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 October 2013

Visited just a couple of days after the opening. Very convenient situation. All very nicely decorated, staff very friendly and a good choice of food on the menu. We all opted for the carvery which was especially good, particularly the gammon. Also the carvery was excellent value and available in different size portions too. Will definitely eat there again when we next visit Southport. Hopefully they will keep up the good standard after the initial excitement wears off.

Food, service, fine, does what it says on the packet, staff friendly, helpful. Position excellent. What' a pity its not called something linking with Southport, the seaside fun, days out ?

“New place to try”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 October 2013 via mobile

Visited in its first week so forgave some of the silly errors like bar staff unable to open a bottle of wine!
Table for 6 and extensive menu with usual pub food and a carvery for £6.15 which was excellent value and tasty. Smaller and larger portions also available. Started tasty although many deep fried so not very healthy and desserts are impressive with generous portions and if you can't eat it all they will box it up so you can take it home. Choice buns are enormous but a little hard. Worth going again maybe when ironed out teething problems and am sure will do well although why it's called Guelder Rose is completely beyond me and an outrage given local history and it's location.
