“Adequate for price”
Reviewed 29 March 2014 via mobile

Stayed for 2 nights whilst working in the area. Booked for £40 for 2 nights including breakfast. On arrival, Norbert the owner moved his car so I could park on the parking area. The room was basic but clean and had tea/coffee facilities and TV. Ensuite was clean with good hot shower. Only 1 towel provided but at the price, perhaps shouldn't moan too much. Was away to work before breakfast started but Norbert made me sandwiches left in the hallway for me instead. Can walk into town in 3 or 4 minutes and a nice pub just around the corner for evening meals too. Ideal for me whilst working and a good budget B&B. As stated in another review, the owners are trying to update the property and are great hosts who try to help you in any way possible.

On arrival at this B and B initially it doesn't look overly welcoming.

However it is ideally situated for a quick walk into town and there is parking at the property. The landlord is very pleasant and the rooms were clean and the breakfasts ok. We stayed here while arranging a funeral and were attracted by the price of £50 total for a double room including breakfast for two nights. It was perfectly adequate for what we needed, but there aren't any frills with this hotel and why would you expect there to be at this price. The mattress wasn't the most comfortable and you could feel the springs slightly but we still slept well. This is a bargain find, and is clean and basic.

We had a spotlessly clean double room with new bathroom , breakfast of bacon egg sausage beans tomato mushrooms and toast served to us by norbert who went out of his way to ensure everything was to our liking. The guest house is situated close to all amenities and the marine water front, we enjoyed our stay at the New England the only thing we found falt with was the weather, we have booked to go back for 2 weeks in july so we can take in this lovely seaside resort and see Norbert who we know will give us the great welcome as we received in february, Rita & Charlie

Arrived and was booked in by the polish cleaner wearing her pink slippers, good first impression !!. I asked her if we should leave the car keys with her as there is only 4 spaces and we were blocking someone in, was told no that's OK, was having a lie down and at 6.30 pm there was banging on the door, and someone said this is Norbert, move car. Norbert is the polish owner / manager I was informed later. We stayed 2 nights, the room stank of air freshener and cleaning products, aerial wires were running across the carpet and had been pulled out of the socket for the TV, plug to the TV was smashed, beds about a thousand years old, bathroom not very clean, bedroom had sweet packet on the floor, 1 bath towel each, no hand towels and 1 small piece of soap, no cleaner on day 2 so no tea / coffee refills or clean towels,. Breakfast you get beans, mushrooms, one small piece of bacon, 2 very very cheap sausages and one piece of white toast, day 2 we did not bother with this very bad breakfast and went without. On the website it states internet in all rooms, there is none anywhere, states they accept credit cards, but they will only accept cash. Before we booked this we looked on TripAdvisor and could see no reviews, so we looked at the reviews on the booking site not realizing that they don't put the bad reviews on. Be warned and go elsewhere.

Paid £50 to stay at this hotel in Southport while visiting family. With the promise of free parking and breakfast, and all the four star reviews, this seemed like a no brainer for the price. However on arrival, there were only 4 spaces for 10 rooms so no parking. There was also a sign above the door quoting rooms for £20. We were shown to our very basic room with one towel and one cup provided between us. The room was very small, and the bed incredibly uncomfortable-enjoy the free massage from the bed springs! The breakfast was average at best, and service while friendly was minimal. Also told on checking out that we had to pay cash as the card machine was untrustworthy, so ensure you have enough cash on you to pay. For my money, I would probably pay a little more to stay somewhere else.
