“Generally very, very impressive!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2011

Turned up fairly late after a long drive to a very warm welcome from the girl on reception. I stay away a lot through my job and have become quite passive about hotel rooms but have to say my room(508) was fab. Spacious, great decor, massive bed, huge shower etc - really impressive and comfortable. I stayed 2 nights and used the gym ( small but good equipment), loved the breakfast apart from the weird baked beans?! The only blip was the barman in the bar serving the night I popped into the bar - found him quite rude and surly , hence only 4/5 and not 5/5!

My husband and i recently stayed at the Vincent Hotel for one night,we had a lovely time the room was beautifully decorated with all the mod cons you would expect .
Even the mini bar in the room was very reasonably priced, after dining at The Warehouse restaurant just a short walk away (In which i would highly recommend ) we went back to the hotel bar were we met Naomi who was behind the bar and she made us some fabulous cocktails !!!!!!! again all reasonably priced
Breakfast was buffet style to help yourself to as much as like, cannot fault the hotel at all, all the staff were very friendly and helpful and we look forward to returning .

Not really sure what the hotel aims to achieve by blocking it's own guests from using the bar. We were staying at the hotel following a family wedding and were told we weren't going to be allowed access to the bar because my wife was still in her bridesmaids outfit. The staff didn't appear able to explain the rationale of this strange rule, all the more strange given that their website seems to suggest that the hotel was a great venue for weddings. There was even a subtle implication of threat from one of the bouncers when I asked them to explain their policy.

Definitely would avoid this place in the event of a wedding in future, but if I ever feel like viewing pretentious pictures of aborigines whilst sporting smart casual golfing slacks, I might consider it.

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to the Vincent.
The hotels members bar has a smart casual dress code at all times. The Vincent welcomes wedding guests and is a fantastic venue for wedding receptions. Unfortunately wedding attire, stag & hen parties are not permitted in the members bar downstairs, but we do have a private bar for all functions that are taking place at the hotel.

I have stayed at the Vincent twice in the last three years.

The first time was for a friend's wedding, and I had a very good experience of the hotel. It offered just what Southport needed at the time: a young clientele, elegant surroudings and good service.

The second time, this summer, I was disappointed to see that the "shine" has definitely come off this relatively new hotel:
The rooms, previously quite funky (as another reviewed has mentioned, in a "Malmaison" style), are starting to look tired and battered. Everything worked and was comfortable but stains on the carpet, chips on the furniture etc. gave my room a disappointingly depressing feel.

Dirty bedding had been left on the floor in the corridor next to the elevator by the maids. An isolated incident, I suspect, but still symptomatic of the general apathy and lack of professionalism displayed by most of the staff. Clearly the passage of time has made the once attentive, energetic staff, bored and disinterested.

The restaurant is ok. Just ok. It could do with a bit more variety, although what I had was good. The staff, however, get a C - (must try harder): they were far more interested in wiping tables and adjusting table settings than serving the waiting customers. Nothing that a bit of extra training and closer supervision couldn't fix.

As a young-looking man in my early 30s, I also have to agree that the doorstaff who appear at the front door of the hotel after dark need to be put on a shorter leash (or, better yet, replaced with more customer friendly members of staff). Quite why a hotel needs several very large brawlers who look like they've come straight from a body builders convention to stand outside and interrogate hotel guests as they're returning to the hotel after having dinner elsewhere is anyone's guess. However, as a non-drinker and a paying guest, I didn't much appreciate being physically stopped in my tracks to be asked whether I was drunk and staying in the hotel before they would let me in and out of the rain. Saturday night or not, this is not good customer service.

Overall, this is still the best hotel in Southport. And they know it. What they may not know, however, is: (a) that the lack of competition from any of the tired, run-down hotels and guest-houses is making them drop their game, and become more like those other hotels. Unless they embark upon a refurb (and staff attitute re-adjustment training) soon, this place will become just like all the others; and (b) most of their guests will have stayed in vastly superior hotels elsewhere in the world, and therefore expect more from the Vincent.

Stay here if you are coming to Southport for a reason but don't come to Southport just to stay here.

Stayed here for a night after a friends wedding... never again! It's very difficult to comment on the decor or the rooms or the hotel in general when the overriding memory of this place is the night clerk on reception (on the evening of Friday 29th July 2011) and the amazingly rude and downright hostile attitude that they displayed. Our friends were married that day and had decided to spend their wedding night in The Vincent. There were about 10 or 12 guests from the wedding also staying there on this particular evening. We'd arrived back at the hotel ahead of the bride and groom and were astounded when we found out that the staff on reception were refusing the bride and groom entry to the bar whislt still in their wedding attire. They demanded that the bride change out of her dress and insisted that the groom remove his button-hole. Obviously, after a beautiful wedding day, the last thing you expect is a petty, narrow-minded attitude especially at a hotel with a reputation such as The Vincent. The attitude displayed to us and the bride and groom was simply unbelievable. You can make the hotel as beautiful as you want but what's the point when you employ such bitter and petty staff. Will never go near this place again. Totally ruined what shuld have been a great day. Pathetic staff, pathetic attitude.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the Vincent.
I was disappointed to read your comments following your stay, especially regarding the bar. The McGee bar has a dress and entrance policy which we operate at all times especially at weekends as the bar becomes busy, whilst we will always do our best to accommodate all of our guests, admission is not guaranteed particularly during busy periods. I do apologise if this policy was not made clear to you before arriving back to the hotel.

I stayed here for a Wedding being held at the Hotel. The rooms were great, very stylish and cool with a fresh feel to them. Great facilities and service from the Staff. It was also very clean.

The Wedding was Brilliant, very well run, slick and a great experience for everybody. Faultless.

I would definitely return.

Stayed overnight at the Vincent following my sister's wedding which was held there. Cannot fault the hotel whatsoever, service, facilities, location are all fantastic.

In terms of the actual wedding, the planning and execution was fantastic, making the whole day (civil ceremony, wedding breakfast and evening reception) run seamlessly. Nothing was too much trouble, anything that needed actioning was done rightaway. Food was gorgeous too. Everything was held on one floor of the hotel which meant a private bar for guests inbetween the different parts of the day and the main room being switched about in terms of seating etc which, again, was done very quickly and smoothly.

In terms of the rooms, the super kingsize beds are absolutely massive, to the point that you could easily sleep sideways if you wished! They've covered with lots of cushions and pillows and are very comfortable. There's a Magimix coffee maker which is very impressive and the bathrooms are gorgeous with The White Company toiletries, rainforest showers and deep soaking tubs in the standard rooms (there are also a number of wheelchair accessible rooms which have wet rooms rather than the soaking tubs). Room is complete with roning board, iron, safe, decent hairdryer (not a travel model), mini bar, flat screen tv with Sky Sports etc, all the little extras you'd expect from a good hotel. Screens instead of curtains are a nice touch and very effective in keeping the room dark if you want a lie in. The sound proofing must also be great as we weren't disturbed at all despite the music still going on downstairs. We paid £79 for a double room for the night which I thought was really reasonable for a hotel of this standard. We didn't have breakfast but I know from other family members that this was excellent in terms of standard and choice.

Its location is right on Lord St which is the main street in terms of shops, bars and restaurants etc which are numerous, so in Southport you're not going to get any better. Whilst no carpark, valet parking is available and reasonble at £15 per night although there is a nearby NCP car park which only charges £5.50 for 24hr and is a good alternative. If you're thinking of having a wedding here, then there are gardens with a bandstand, fountains etc right outside which make a nice backdrop for pictures and the pier, beach etc are also nearby.

Honestly could not recommend this hotel enough, whether it be for a weekend away or holding your wedding here, everything was just perfect and we'd definately return here for a relaxing break.
