5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 August 2014

Been to the Saxon on many occasion now and it never fails to please. Great little pub with excellent food and friendly service. Fab value for money and the basket of chips you get are piled high. Over all lovely food and will return again

“Excellent Service and hosts are brilliant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 August 2014

Having tried lots of the menu superb apart from the Sunday lunch, meat processed and mediocre, roast potatoes don't bother and gravy far too salted. Again try other dishes and you will not be disappointed!

“Step back in time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 August 2014

Empty when we arrived so the pick of where we wanted to sit. Staff were pleasant enough. Food was good if a little dated....was like stepping back to the 90's but I don't mind that as long as the food is good and plentiful which it was. I have never seen so many chips and boy were they good! The steak pie was good and the meat was very tender. Would I go back.....if I just fancied something basic but tasty then yes.

“Processed Sunday Lunch”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014

If you are wanting a home cooked Sunday lunch, then don't bother going to the Saxon Inn. I ordered roast beef, when it eventually arrived 20 minutes later I was extremely disappointed. Frozen yorkshire puddings, filled with gravy so they were soggy, tinned mushy peas, one small roast potato, mash, carrots, cabbage and horrible 'peppery' turnip was served to me. The beef was so tough I couldn't get my knife through it plus there was a horrible line of fat all the way through it. It was without a doubt the worst Sunday lunch out I have ever had. I left the majority of it. The placemats and salt and pepper bottles could also do with a clean down. Hygiene should be paramout but not in this pub it wasn't. A big mistake.
