Spent two nights here in a very comfortable large room with jacuzzi ensuite. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast good we will certainly return. Two small suggestions would be addition of earl grey tea and sugar free granulated sweeteners

Good to read that you enjoyed your two nights with us.

As always I will share your kind remarks to our staff and I take note of your two small suggestions of having earl grey tea and sugar free granulated sweeteners more readily available.

We look forward to your return

My wife and me enjoyed a lovely Sunday lunch at the Park Head Hotel.. The lunch is served as a carvery and there was a choice of four roast meats. I had a very generous portion of beef and with all the fresh vegetables and potatoes felt thoroughly 'stuffed' at the end of our meal!

Our night here was wonderful! Pretty faultless all round. The staff were friendly, the rooms up to standard but the food took the biscuit. Our 'Steak and Ale Suet Pudding' was huge and of a very high standard as were the (proper) chips and veg that accompanied it. My only complaint was that there was too much for me but my husband finished it all off. I would recommend it to anyone. If I had to really search for a criticism it would be that the person before us had smoked outside the courtyard room and left fag ends outside the door. Easy for a cleaner to miss I suppose. I'm hoping we'll stay here again on expenses :)

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your kind comments

Really good to read that you had a faultless stay with us and that you found our Steak and Ale Suet Pudding with proper chips to be of a very high standard - many people comment about our high quaility food and nearly all mention the real chips.

As always I will pass your comments onto the staff

Hopefully we will see you again

The rooms in this lovely little hotel are being upgraded one by one, I have stayed here twice and have had an old and upgraded room and both are pretty good and excellent value

Check in was fast and extremely friendly, all the staff here are lovely. The rooms are spacious, well equipped and cosy with everything you need for business or pleasure travel (the free wifi struggles a bit in the RHS rooms in the annexe so the main building or annexe LHS are best). I got Room 30 and had poor wifi but was moved with no fuss to another room on request. Comfortable bed and a decent shower made this a nice stay.

The bar area is really nice & comfortable with great food at reasonable prices with the usual friendly, quick service. Breakfast was excellent, hot and plentiful and served with a smile.

Location is handy for Durham and the north east, I use this as a stopover to be in Sunderland the next day.

Overall, excellent. Great value and highly recommended, I shall return.

Room Tip: Annexe is quieter as rooms in the main building face onto the main road

This hotel is not expensive, but the rooms are spacious and clean, though a bit dated. The staff are all charming, so helpful, one could not fault them. The room we had was quiet and the water was hot and the bed comfortable. One really could not ask for more in the price range.

Stayed here for 1 night. The room we stayed in although adequate was a little tired and looked in need of a refurb.

The bar area and breakfast room have been refurbished and these areas are nice, bright clean and modern.

Can't fault the cost of the food. We had the Carvery and it only cost £5.00. A full plate that was tasty too.

If you need a reasonably priced stopover hotel, I would recommend, otherwise maybe not the hotel for you.

Wanting to visit Shildon, I was fortunate to book a couple of days at this hotel, I did not realise how fortunate we were in booking Park Head hotel, it was well run, pleasant with excellent food, and staff friendly, and knowledgeable about local amenities, The accommodation was warm and clean, but slightly tired,(due for refurb soon)So with the Museum visited(twice) and a great day at Beamish, in spite of the weather, our trip was a great success and upon leaving it was like leaving long time friends, so will be returning before too long. Great to read that you thought our hotel 'was well run, pleasant with excellent food, and staff friendly, and knowledgele about local amenities' and that the weather didn't spoil your 2 visits to the National Rail Museum and Beamish (two great museums)

also good to read your comment 'upon leaving it was like leaving long time friends, so will be returning before too long' - we look forward to welcoming you again and can advise of some other gems to visit in the area

See you soon
