Having read good reviews for this cottage we booked a one week stay over Christmas. Have to say that the previous reviews were spot on accurate. Friendly welcome from the owners (log fire was pre lit) Everything you could have wanted was provided along with a welcome basket. Some 'dog friendly' places are actually barely dog tolerant but this place really is dog friendly with treats for the dogs, 'I'm on holiday' collar tags and spare bedding, bowls, leads, etc. Very highly recommended.
We had a lovely time when we stayed here, so relaxing and our two dogs had a fab time too. The garden was completely secure which was a huge bonus for us as we could let them in and out without having to watch them constantly or keep them on leads. The area for walking was great, ourselves and the dogs especially enjoyed a walk at nearby Hamsterley Forest. They were muddy and tired after our walk but we were welcomed in at the village pub after leaving the forest for a quick drink, and the thoughtful touch of a heated shower outside the cottage to wash the dogs was a great help too. We felt totally relaxed when we left to come home and didn’t want to leave. We have already booked to return next year. Thanks Ang, so glad we found your lovely cottage x
Lots of places to visit nearby, and if you fancy a trip to the coast, you can do so in about 50 minutes. This cottage is in the perfect, peaceful location.
This is our third visit to the cottage and once again it cannot be faulted. Ang, the owner, has thought of everything and is very friendly and could not be more helpful. A folder full of leaflets of things to see and do nearby and local attractions helps to decide of places to visit during your stay, or use the free wifi to look places up on your tablet/phone! Two nice bedrooms, one being ensuite, and very comfortable beds. The lounge area has two comfy sofas, Sky tv or DVD player, or just sit and admire the beautiful view out of the patio doors, the sheep were in the field during our stay! Nice size kitchen area with everything you would need. There is a patio seating area in the lovely garden with views across the field. The cottage also has its own driveway for parking.
If you are looking for a beautiful cottage to stay in, in an area of the country that is full of great places to visit, and a friendly owner who can't do enough to make sure you enjoy your stay, this is the place for you!
When we drove in to be greeted by Angie we knew we were in the place of memories and luxury. After last year who would think you could beat it, but we did, because this time we stayed for 2 weeks and I have to say the cottage and all its facilities are as good as ever, if not better, with one or two little additions making it an ongoing pleasure to be there. Being a Crook lad and visiting numerous relatives it is easy to get around and after a long day the most quiet and restful place to relax with a glass of wine in the courtyard. We have booked for next year and must say can't wait to get back.
The superlatives for this cottage are difficult to come by such is its excellence! And by that, I include the whole experience- the booking formalities, the correspondence, the information, the cottage itself and in particular the insurpassable hosting skills and attention of Ang herself.
We have rented many many cottages but without doubt this one was by a long chalk the best one for the overall experience, and one that when you left, you had a feeling of sadness of departure, but with a warm inner glow of having not only had a wonderful stay, but having been treated like Royalty when you were there. That Ang really really CARES about you while you are there is something we have not encountered before and it was a very uplifting and cosy feeling I must say.
She has been doing this for 3 years almost to the day now- and its to her huge credit that she is clearly as attentive and scrupulous as the first day she opened it for us lucky customers. The cleanliness was immaculate, the quality of all fixtures and fittings was superb-but the attention to fine detail was just awesome.
To include the dog so highly on the list of importance and priorities was just touching and to provide safety collar tags is unique...but to go to the lengths of baking her own safe ingredient dog treats as well..?? who goes to those lengths??
There is for example an outside box with a dog shower..so handy ...but even that was heated (to tepid) water so as to not shock the dog. Wow.
The Welcome pack was so well thought out and presented, and even on top of this there were other lovely touches such as fragrance gift for my wife. Little subtle touches of class throughout exist as for me (being an ex- Potteries person), quality china crockery...a wooden hangers in the wardrobe instead of those plastic things...
I could just go on and on about all the great things in this cottage, the host, and the area. Most of it has already been covered in her 100% 5 star reviews by others...But take it from me- you just NEED to come here and experience it!
Thanks again Ang for such a memorable week. XX
The cottage was absolutely perfect so clean and comfortable. A great location and in a lovely spot. There was everything you could possibly need in the cottage and more. Ang the owner had thought of everything. We had a really enjoyable week and would thoroughly recommend Bracken Hill Cottage.
Very quiet location close to some lovely walks. Extensive information available in the cottage with a very friendly, helpful owner. The most dog friendly cottage we have stayed at. Extremely clean, well maintained cottage with an enclosed garden. We will most certainly visit again.
