“Heathrow Ibis exceeded expectations”
Reviewed 17 January 2009

With an early flight out of Heathrow on January 2nd, I decided to book at the Ibis for the night before due to its cost and location. The hotel is also served by the Heathrow Hoppa, and the local bus stops are very close, so that was a plus. My sister and I had wanted to stay for New Year’s Eve in Central London, as we were attending a West End show. We found that all the affordable hotels were booked and that the only availability rooms began at over 250 pounds or were in hotels whose reviews all stated clearly: Don’t stay at this hotel! So we decided that we would be better off traveling an hour each way to stay at the Ibis for both nights. We would not have to change hotels or lug our suitcases, which were big plusses, so we made a compromise. The rate for the two nights was only 94 pounds, which was also a huge plus—less than a single night in the city.

The first sign that things were going to go very well was when we arrived at 11 in the morning and there was a room already available. We were able to check in immediately and not have to leave our luggage at the reception. Then the receptionist told us that the local bus to Heathrow was free. I suppose that it is easier for London Transport to offer free services than to deal with so many clueless tourists. The trip to the airport to catch the tube to London took less than 10 minutes. Heathrow to Piccadilly was exactly 50 minutes. After a long day in London, we ended up coming back to the hotel before midnight, primarily due to the weather. We decided that we would celebrate by watching the festivities on tv in our warm hotel room. After a long hot shower with terrific water pressure (rare in England), we had great seats for the fireworks show. The beds were basic but comfortable. The only problem was that there was a good bit of noise in the halls after midnight. The second night was very quiet. The breakfast buffet was excellent. I took advantage of the early riser’s continental breakfast the morning of our departure and was only charged 3 pounds, even though the cooked breakfast had been brought out while I ate.

My sister had decided that we would be better off with a taxi for 15 pounds rather than the Hoppa for 8, so she booked it the night before for 6:30 am. It turned out that the hotel ran a private shuttle, which took us directly to Terminal 4. When my sister handed the driver the 15 pounds, he gave her back 10! This turned out much better than getting the Hoppa to the main terminal and then having to take the airport shuttle to our terminal.

All in all, it was an excellent stay. The hotel was being refurbished, but we never saw any evidence of it. We had the ground floor room next to the stairwell, but aside from the (somewhat predictable) New Year’s Eve revelry, we were not disturbed by the noise. We heard no airport noise whatsoever due to the double glazing of the windows.

  • Liked — Price and location--Very close to Heathrow

After being let down at the 11th hour by a small local hotel we needed to act quickly.I looked at the location which suited our needs pretty well( a visit to Twickenham for a rugby match),and used Ibis own website to make a reservation for two twin rooms. The website was easy to navigate and the price was fantastic,£45 per room.
At check in we were dealt with in a proffesional and very courteous manner. The rooms are a little on the small side but
clean and very adequate for a one or two night stay.
Breakfast at £6.95 is buffet style.Anything from unlimited amounts of full english to fruit, cerials, cheeses etc.
Car parking is in a secure area at £7.
The public areas are modern and clean.
Overall I would have no hesitation in returning toThe Ibis Heathrow .

I expected this hotel to be basic and suitable for a 1 night stay before i travelled - how wrong i was!
I stayed in a room with a sunken mattress, sheets which had gone yellow, simple bathroom with a 10yr old ragged towel and bar of soap and brown rust(?) stains in the sink.
I didwas able to sleep after having a glass of wine at the 'student' syle bar.
All i can say is that at £77 for the night, make sure you insist on a refurbished room if you still plan on staying here...

I stayed there 2 nights before a long flight to Australia and totally regretted the whole experience, because i had pre paid it was hard to get a refund or to find any English speaking staff to communicate my complaint with.

The triple room i had booked was extremely dirty, the carpet was so badly stained that i couldn't bring myself to put my bare feet on it, we also had an outside spotlght that shone directly into our room at night. the bathroom was grimey and unclean, the bath was stained and the sink covered in ciggerette burns, it smelled of sewage and again the floor filthy. the room itself was the size of a rabbit hutch, i cannot belive that a hotel would offer this as a triple room!
The bar was quite expensive,a cheap bottle of wine cost 13.00GBP the same wine 3.99GBP at the supermarket, the breakfast was an extra charge and was poor quality, i found a long black hair in the grapefriut segments and when i pointed this out to the chef he just shrugged his shoulders and removed it. on check out i tried to make a complaint but the non english speaking staff just walked away when i got annoyed.

i spent most of my time at the Premier Inn down the road which have a play area for toddlers and very nice bars and resturants. It is difficult and expensive to get into London from the airport hotels, we took a bus to Hounslow, but don't go there as its quite down troddon unless you want to catch a train from there into London itself. for the rates of the Ibis hotel you can stay in a much cleaner, nicer one down the road like the Premier Inn.

The room was the size of a rabbit hutch. Two small single beds pushed together ( we requested separate). Very low to ground. Seating was low to ground. Bathroom had grotty towels, there was mold on the ceiling. They had sprayed or had some some sort of overpowering air freshener that was vile. We should have turned around and left immediately but we were tired after travelling for 4 hrs by road. We didn't go into bathroom right away. Just dropped our bags and went down to bar to get a soda and when we came back saw the mold in bathroom. People sensitive to perfumes & mold could get seriously ill. When we pointed it out, they didn't care. We asked for refund but they only gave partial. Their policy says they will fix the problem, well they didn't. They say they are refurbishing rooms...well they shouldn't put people in rooms that haven't been refurbished. I wish we had taken pictures to show how deplorable it was. We left and checked into another hotel by Heathrow. Twice the size room, CLEAN, proper size beds and a mold free and fragrance free environment. This room was £7 cheaper as well than the IBIS.

Having missed my flight connection, the airline put me up at this hotel. It was awful! Incredibly dirty and smelly. The bathroom was horrible-very dirty--gross! No facecloths, no toiletries, no hairdry--just a kettle that did not work. The restaurant plates and dishes still had dried food stuck to them. I couldn't get out of there fast enough!!!!! Stay away!

Be sure to read the conditions of sale before booking this hotel! My husband and I booked two nights at this hotel when we got stranded in France after Zoom went out of business. We were already in France trying to get home and found the best flights to be out of London. We booked two nights at the Ibis, then cancelled when we managed to find a much cheaper flight leaving 2 days earlier. As the Ibis wasn't available, we stayed elsewhere. After arriving home, we found that the Ibis had already charged the full amount to our credit card. This was apparently noted on the website as a condition of sale, but as we were in transit and didn't have a printer we couldn't check our confirmation. Now we are unable to get our money back. Make sure you are really going to stay there before you book!
