Great little hostel. Me and my partner booked the double room (or penthouse suite as we called it. it was right at the top of the building) We came to london to go sightseeing, to shop, and to visit camden market and managed to do all of this in our short stay as the hoztel is right next to the tube station. A 5 pound 30 pence day ticket is all you need to buy for the tube and you can use it as many times in one day as you like.
If you would turn your nose up at a travelodge however it's not recommended. The room is very basic (double bed, tv, full length mirror, hairdryer, clothes rail, small sofa and filing cabinet as drawers) but lets face it, you're mostly going to be in it to sleep. the bed is comfy too. but the best part about the room is the window, you can see the whole street from up high it's great to people watch. And there's always hot water and each floor has a shower room. As there is only two rooms on the top floor it was practically like an en suite. I would also recommend the chicken shop two doors down and the polish supermarket across the road for munchies (they don't notice if you sneak food in).
There was cereal available each morning which is great for the price. One teeny complaint - there are no australians, at least i didn't meet any, but the guy that runs it is really nice (polish i think). Oh and there's a computer with internet which is really helpful.
All in all I would definately recommend it, Shepherd's Bush is a really great place to stay, loads of places to eat and a daily market, plus there's the tube next door
