I have stayed several times at The Spread Eagle and have enjoyed every one. The hotel is a nicely appointed country house in Midhurst. The location is good with ample parking. The staff are helpful. The rooms clean, well furnished and with good facilities. The restaurant good and the bar quaint. From the hotel the pubs and restaurants of Midhurst are a minutes walk away.

Visited the Spreadeagle for afternoon tea on the way to the Polo at Cowdray Park.

JJ Pollak the general manager was friendly and very welcoming, it was a warm sunny day and the hotel was very busy.

Afternoon tea and sandwiches on the terrace was delightful, the service was very good. I noted that since my last visit how much the whole hotel had improved. Thank you JJ .

Had a great value one night Sunday stay here. Deal included dinner bed and breakfast plus £30 spa voucher. Room was lovely if a little tired and looked out onto the courtyard. The spa was small but clean although the sauna wasn't working that day. We had a great sandwich in the wheatsheaf pub just round the corner and their beer was great too. The staff were very friendly and could not be faulted. My only disappointment was the dinner. Mine was good but my husbands steak was not edible and he had to send it back to the kitchen. It really was like old boots and he isn't a fussy eater! All in all though a lovely break away and I would give it another go. Just wouldn't order steak next time!

Lovely hotel set in a quiet little town. Staff were good and attentive with a couple of the waitresses one warm evening doing a fantastic job under the watchful eye of the new hotel manager! Bedrooms look as if they are being refurbished at the moment so the garden room we were in was very nice.

Food was very nice and a good choice of beers on at the bar.

We would be happy to return again.

I returned to the Spread Eagle after a few years' absence and was delighted and surprised! This classic gem has been spruced up so that it still retains its significant ole worlde charme (the wonderful maze-like quality is very much part of that) while providing more modern facilities. My cycling buddy and I booked in for a 'cycling' weekend; the room was very clean and spacious. Often twin rooms are 'bijoux' but our room was far from that; plenty of space for two friends sharing. Will in the spa took considerable time to create a cycling route for us that took us through stunning Sussex countryside. Over and above!

The food really was delicious; an amazing cheese soufflé was preceded by an old school prawn cocktail with a cheeky kick. The breakfast was really outstanding; the bircher muesli was subtly enhanced with cinnamon and the 'pina colada' fruit salad was a glorious taste of the Caribbean.

I will be back!

We stayed at the Spread Eagle as we were attending a wedding in the South Downs. The hotel is very old, a bit of a maze to be honest. The weather was very hot and as the hotel is so old they did not have any aircon. The windows were painted shut and to get a breath of air was almost impossible. The bathroom room had baths not showers. The spa, a new section of the hotel was a blessing. Here you could lay out in the small garden area and dip in and out of the pool. They had showers and a hairdryer. The treatments were very good as long as you had booked in advance. The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much of a problem for them. The breakfasts were excellent and we also had an evening meal in the hotel. It was very expensive for the standard of the hotel. But some folk seem to like the quaint set up.

Room Tip: WE upgraded to a more expensive room, but it was still hot ad stuffy.
