The South Downs National Park is a vast area, this review focuses on the part east of the River Arun to the A24 Worthing to Arundel road.
There are numerous access points to this area of the Downs. This is one of the gems. The area is full of skylarks, corn buntings, yellowhammers, grey partridges, red kites, buzzards and the occasional lapwing.
Arm yourself with an OS map and get off the South Downs Way and explore the valleys to the south. There is a great patchwork of mixed farmland managed in an environmentally sensitive manner.
