It may sound trite but it is true. Brendon Davies' Comestibles does the simple things well. The coffee is the best in Town priced at £1.95 for a large, delicious cup. It is consistently good. Comestibles is the place you come for your Xmas goodies, quiches and mince-pies - it's a deli combined with a cafe. Seating inside is split between a bar and three tables. People, like my wife and I, like the bar as we love the support for our newspapers. We come every Saturday morning for coffee and scrambles egg, a sort of brunch after my wife has finished the wekly shop; and before going over the road, perhaps, to the Swan Inn to watch footie or rugger on the 4 huge screens
Back to Brendon's. Seating is 16 inside and circa 8 outside, if you're lucky. Two tables are perched outside the entrance and another one is placed across the road outside the Bottle and Jug. Bikers love sitting on the War Memorial.
Brendon does a good trade in picnics for Goodwood and take-aways for locals. Visitors are very welcome in Comestibles but you'll have to put up with us locals chatting - it's a very sociable place: we meet friends from all over the world. Situated in Red Lion Street near Midhurst Market Square most of the top B&Bs are in Georgian houses near-by/ Yes! if you don't mind it a bit slow at peak times - and closing at 5.0pm daily - and rubbing shoulders with locals you'll love Comestibles, the very best place to chill out!

Probably the best sandwiches in Midhurst. The rest of the menu can be a bit ordinary. But the cakes and biscuits are pretty good as is the coffee. Such a pity they have not got any outside space

Good quality freshly cooked food - really good breakfast and lunch, not much seating so get there early.

We always come here for lunch after a good long walk over the golf course and past the polo ponies (the tourist information centre has details of a circular route of about 7 miles). It's a deli/cafe/takeaway with seating for around fourteen so you can either eat in or buy a picnic feast to take out when the weather's nice.

We haven't tried everything on the menu because we always go for soup and sandwiches, but they also do jacket potatoes and some specials. They usually have a choice of a couple of soup options, and the selection of sandwiches is pretty extensive. Sandwiches are served with freshly dressed salad and kettle chips on a choice of breads. Everything is so beautifully fresh and well presented - it's incredibly good value for money at this standard. All washed down with a generous pot of tea and/or a dandelion and burdock - lovely. They also do some pastries. I've had their individual bakewell tart before. Again, delicious.

We've been here for lunch dozens of times and the standard remains consistently really high. I think the owner's called Brendan and he and his team do such a great job. I'm surprised it hasn't had rave reviews before, but I'm sure lots of people must visit Midhurst without discovering it because it's off the main street. I hope they do now.
