“Afternoon Tea but not much choice of tea”
Reviewed 12 January 2014

We visited here for afternoon tea yesterday and mostly had a very positive experience. The only negative comment was the choice of tea itself was limited and uninspiring. I had expected a tea "menu" as other hotels provide and when I asked was given a verbal list of three plus fruit teas which was something of a let down. Having said that the food was good and plentiful and service unobtrusive.

So glad we didn't pay full price (took advantage of their January special offer) Don't get me wrong the place is beautiful! Can't fault it if you're looking for a building and grounds full of character & charm. A getaway place for the weekend for couples.

The room was comfortable although different, we were put in the Windsor room, which has a spiral stair case to the bathroom above. Although at first glace the unique room seemed lovely, the bathroom has no door, not ideal and the bathroom is placed in a room with a low ceilling so the shower is therefore placed very low making showering a bit annoying. Also worth mentioning as i was in the shower my hubby was in bed and quite a bit of water started to leak on him and over the bed! And yes we did mention this to reception.

Had afternoon champaine cream tea just after checking in, which was yummy and leisurely as it should be, then a late dinner in the Mulberry restaurant which was amazing, both the food and staff! I had a great night sleep, unfortunately my husband didn't as both the pillows and bed were very soft!! But overall enjoyed our stay, it was relaxing just could have done without the leak. I'd recommend this place to anyone, just make sure you don't get the Windor room and take advantage of their January offer, otherwise it may seem to some overpriced and pretentious.

Stayed on Boxing-day, the room was very spacious with a huge comfy bed, sofa and table.
Large, clean bathroom with a Victorian free standing bath, double sinks and a power shower.
The staff were efficient and very friendly.
We had dinner in the restaurant, we were the only ones there as we were a bit late down, but the staff were thankfully in no rush to get it out, and we enjoyed a very nice meal before retiring to the suite.
In short, very nice hotel, lovely grounds (all though it was too wet to take advantage) but not cheep.
If you are happy with the price it comes highly recommended.

We arrived late afternoon having got off a long flight into Gatwick. Check in was quick and simple. Although the bed wasn't as big as I like (think it was a Queen size) it was amazingly comfortable. All was very clean, plenty of magazines to sit and read and for a change there were two comfy chairs. Enjoyable.

A lovely Manor quite close to Gatwick. The staff are great, they even somehow got me a new sim which is above and beyond. The bedrooms are cosy and comfortable with all the usual extras there for yr convenience. The grounds are nice to walkabout and if you wish to walk to the local bars they are about a 10 minute stroll away. The food was superb with a wide variety but not OTT. And all rounded off with good waiters who make you feel comfortable.

Room Tip: If y need room with Internet, ask for room with strong signal. My room was iffy but other rooms good...

Took advantage of the three-night Chrsitmas package - a far better deal than many hotels in the area. beautiful room, superb food and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Floods and fallen trees on December 23rd didn't deter the dedicated management team who had arrived in the early morning to cut away a large oak tree blocking the lane to the hotel. We even had a phone call from the general manager in the morning giving us alternative directions to avoid flooding in the area. We left extremely relaxed and looking forward to our next stay!
The beauty of this hotel is that it is small, quiet and offers a very personal service. Spa facilities would ruin the gentle ambience of the place - there are plenty of hotels around with such facilities for those who wish to pamper themselves -not least Alexander House!

Room Tip: If it's bad weather go for a room in the main house. 'Windsor' has an upstairs bathroom...

Hotel, staff, room, service and food all excellent. I cannot tell you of one complaint. Fabulous, would highly recommend and have done to all my friends. It is so nice to be able to have such a lovely eating experience and the staff had all been so polite and could not help and advice enough. After dinner we sat in the lounge, of which there are three with our coffee just relaxing after such a fabulous meal and then to our beautiful bedroom and the thought of our breakfast.
