Best Western Gatwick Skylane Hotel
Ranked #17 of 30 Horley B&B and Inns
Reviewed 18 October 2013

One night stay before flight to Spain. At £51.50 incl breakfast for 2 this was excellent value for which we did not expect five star quality. Have stayed here and in several Days Inns / Hotels elsewhere - this time we were not impressed with the bed, which was just old and very uncomfortable. In other respects the standards were perfectly acceptable. The standard of cleanliness of the hotel and the quality of service were both high; breakfast was prepared to order and was adequate if rather 'plastic' in appearance. In contrast the hotel's Indian restaurant offered a good range of curries and other dishes - our evening meal was modestly priced and most enjoyable. We'd stay again - hopefully the bed we had is on the shortlist for early replacement!

I would not recommend staying here at all, and will never return.
I stayed here one night with my 2 daughters. I slipped in the bathroom because the curtain didn't cover the whole bath and water leaked out onto floor. The mat covered 2 ft sq. I reported it to the unsympathetic manager who just said, no one has reported this before. He basically didn't even believe me, although my toes were now swollen from the slip. I asked him to check for himself. He was rude and uncaring. Our room smelt damp and didn't sleep well because of this. I would rather sleep in my car next time than be subject to that. Steer clear...

Stayed at the hotel last night, corridors were rather drab but the room was fine. Shower was a major let down, difficult to adjust and low water flow.
Indian restaurant did a
good meal.
Staff were good.
At £55 including breakfast was definitely good value.

We stayed at this hotel the night prior to our flight from gatwick airport we were able to park our car there got the duration of our holiday and collect it upon return.

On arrival to days inn we found the hotel easily and parked our car on the car park. On checking in we were asked what time we would like taking to the airport as our check in was a little earlier than the mini bus starts the hotel arranged a taxi for us which only cost £4.50 and got us to the airport in good time. They took money for our pick up service then (i think perhaps we would of preferred to get a taxi back as it was cheaper than their minibus) We were then charged an additional £5.50 by the hotel as they said that our car would be there an extra day (our flight home was overnight meaning it was 15 nights parked in the car park) I questioned this since we had put all of our booking and flight information in on the holidays extra website therefore they had know the number of days when we were given the quote- they told us we need to go through holiday extra and we had to pay it. We did and we were given our key. The hotel itself is adequate for its purpose the room was clean, modern and spacious we were pleasantly surprised by the room.

After settling in we decided to go down and have a look at the menu for dinner it looked fine, I went to reception to ask where the nearest place was for a stamp and postbox, I was told that there was none near and we would have to drive miles to find one. I asked if there was a supermarket or corner shop nearby and was told that the nearest was over ten minutes drive away, I said that was fine and asked which direction and all I got was a shrug, i said left or right out of the car park and was told left would only take us to just a load if resteraunts. His attitude was vile and I was really unhappy with the service! Me and my husband decided that we would go and find out ourselves and find somewhere else to eat. Turned left out of the car park and not even 100 yards down the road was a sainsburys petrol station with shop and also less than half a mile further down was a tesco express! A couple of minutes further we found the town centre with a massive waitrose where we parked and got what we needed and next door got a great deal on a meal at weatherspoons. I was disappointed that the receptionist was so unhelpful that he even lied about what we needed. His attitude lost the hotel a couple of meals and drinks that evening and I wouldn't use the hotel again purely because of that. Manners go a long way.

We got to the airport on time and the pick up back and our car was fine.

The price of the hotel was fairly similar to others that offered the same service and it provided a good service on collection, our car was fine on collection and with it being fairly easy to the motorway it was fit for purpose. We were satisfied with the room. Just a shame that the receptionist that evening was so rude and unhelpful, it was otherwise a decent experience. The lady on return was much more helpful on reception and polite.

We booked as part of a park and sleep over deal for gatwick. Arrival to park was efficient as was the taxi booking to airport.

On return it was a bit of a horror story. The hotel had the wrong night booked and the only room offered had a broken flush toilet - not disclosed to us until we were in the room. After complaining they did offer a transfer to another hotel - in due course. I repared the flush and we stayed reluctantly. After repairs the next operation was to liberate some toilet roll......oh dear.

The room was directly above the entrance. The carpet and decor was jaded and lighting poor. The dining room next morning looked grim, partcularly after wading through the fag butts by the door.

I sspect only a thermonuclear device will sort this place out.

Used this hotel as part of a Groupon deal, staying for one night before a two week holiday. The deal included the parking & dinner.

On arrival the check in was efficient and the room at the top of the hotel was reasonable for our one night stay.
Dinner was from the rather uninspiring traditional menu rather than the more interesting Indian one. It was OK but nothing special.

The shower looked good but unfortunately there was no hot water in the morning!

A sign at reception says breakfast is £5 - what it doesn't mention is that to get this price you need to purchase a voucher from reception first, otherwise it is £6.99. Some basic food hygiene was lacking with the serving of the toast!

We used the mini bus service to & from the hotel - the driver didn't bother with his seat belt on either journey or to put the handbrake on when we got back to the hotel. Rather disconcerting when it started rolling back as we attempted to exit!

The pick up on our return was efficient and our car was waitng for us at the front of the hotel - it appeared fine unlike the car of the couple on our arrival who'd had the electric mirrors damaged at some point!

For an airport hotel this is probably as good as most.
