Best Western Gatwick Skylane Hotel

OK for a bed if you have an early flight the next morning, but as a hotel, this is probably one of the worst. The room was clean is about all I can say for it. The window was nailed shut - The staff were unapproachable, checking-in took almost 45 minutes, all had faces as glum as anything. Guests were not permitted to use the restaurant facilities as they had rented it out for an Indian style wedding and over-all we couldn't wait to get the hell out of there !!!

Room Tip: To get a good room and a pleasant experience - find another hotel !!

This hotel was good value and the room was very nicely furnished and good for the price range, it was very clean and in essence well appointed with tea and coffee making facilities and a pleasant bathroom but the extractor fan didn't work, neither did the hair drier, there was a light bulb that was US and you had to run the hot tap for a bath/shower for at least eight minutes for the hot water to come through which was a terrible waste of water.

The walls were extremely thin and as this hotel is mostly used by people flying off from Gatwick you were woken every morning by people having bath/showers at five o'clock in the morning.

Breakfast was freshly cooked and was good value but the dinning room is miserable with no atmosphere. You could not get a decent cup of coffee at breakfast, all they had was a pump vacuum flask full of hot water and sachets of instant coffee. There is no way you would want to have dinner here or a drink in the bar which is very shortsighted. If there had been a nice bar we would ave gone in for a nightcap but it was miserable.

Reception was antiquated with an old dot matrix printer that took ages to print. We originally booked in for one night and then I had phoned them to book three more nights. When we arrived we could only book in for the one night and were asked to come to reception the next morning and book in again for the following three nights! When we tried to do this the next morning they said we couldn't book in because the reception/computer could only deal with people checking out and we had to come back later!

Parking was a nightmare as this hotel does park and fly. One night when we went out and came back at 10pm we got the last parking space, if you arrived any later there were not any at all.

Would not be staying here again.

Not impressed at all with this hotel. The customer service is absolutely terrible! We were lied to by their staff and left waiting for pick up for over 1 hour in the cold, after a long flight home! And our car that was left with them for just 1 week was absolutely filthy!

On landing we called Days hotel for pickup and were advised the driver would be right on his way (just 10 minutes). So we waited for around 30 mins whilst other groups of people came and left around us. We then called Days back and were told that the driver has been told and should be on his way, so we waited another 10 minutes, called back and we were now told the driver is at the other terminal and maybe another 40mins until he is with us!

We then argued this and found out that actually the driver was still waiting at the days hotel and had not even been informed about us because the lady could not be bothered to get up and find him!

An hour after the first call and the driver came, who was actually a very nice man but we still wanted an explaination and some kind of resolution as to why we had been lied to and made to wait so long.

When arriving back to Days we spoke to the manager who was the most rudest person of all, he basically began to say that the time can seem longer when you are waiting outside, like we dont have watches and said it was clearly just a misunderstanding even though we were clearly lied to! He was unwilling to offer any decent reason or compensation for the hassle so I wont ever be using their services again.

And after all that, when we came over to the car it was absolutely filthy, covered in mud and debris! Not what you want when returning back from holiday! Horrible hotel!

I wish I had driven to the airport, even with a Groupon deal.

Very poor service, the room wasn't too bad, but everything else was shocking, so I have to rate it terrible.

Restaurant is a joke, you're not served the food stated on the menu...

Fresh battered fish, with tartar sauce and peas = pre battered frozen fish, with a sachet of tartar sauce and no peas.

Sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream = Sticky toffee pudding, no butterscotch sauce and chocolate ice cream, (doesn't quite work)

When I e.mailed to complain their excuse... There was another chef covering for the main chef.... haha!!!

The return transfer was a joke too, as I see other people complaining about this..

When I arrived at the bus stop, I called to let them know I was there, they said they would send someone. Spoke to a guy at bus stop after about 20 mins, he said he'd been waiting about 30 mins, so we called again, the guy said minibus was on the way. The guy who'd been waiting said they told him that 15 mins ago. We waited another 20 mins, I called again and said if they didn't send the minibus me and the guy would book a cab and they would pay for it.

I told him I could drive back to my home 50 odd miles away in the same time... Minibus arrived 10 mins later, not impressed at all.

When we arrived back at hotel, got my car key from reception and asked to use the PUBLIC TOILET, only to be told they had a private function on and the PUBLIC TOILET was not in use.

Their response to this..... The guy on reception maybe didn't understand what I wanted due to a language barrier. I'm English and this hotel is in ENGLAND!!!!!!

What a joke, stayed in loads of hotels and this has to be the worst hotel ever!!!

If tourists are arriving into the UK and this is the first place they stay and the first experience of British customer service they get, they're likely to get the next flight home.....

Usually stay at a Premier Inn the night before a flight, but decided on the Days Inn because they were less expensive, now I know why. To be fair they were clean, but the water for the shower was cold and the heating in the room was non existant, bear in mind it was March and chilly. We did complain but although they said it would be investigated, I don't think they were interested. Also the car park was pretty crowded, so if you arrive late it could be difficult to park. We had a evening meal here and chose fish and chips, bad choice, over cooked and dry, when asked if we were enjoying meal, mentioned meal overcooked but the staff did not really know how to respond.

staff are pleasant but inept
complimentary mini bus shuttle isnt complementary at all (3 e/w) and took an hour and three phone calls to the hotel to arrive.
restaurant was closed for a function despite being advertised as an integral part of the hotel. no food or drink available

dont stay here unless you want to laugh at british ineptitude.

my husband and I stayed at days hotel Feb 26th and parked for 2 weeks while on holiday. I found the hotel staff very polite and friendly and the room was spacious and very clean. Transfers to and from airport very good.
