We stayed at this Travelodge for one night in late April 2013, I booked it like most reviewers as we had an early morning flight to catch and did not want to drag the kids out of bed in the middle of the night.
We booked a family room and I rang them up beforehand to ensure they put a cotbed in the room for my baby and make up the sofa bed for my toddler.
On arrival at Gatwick airport we had to catch the hotel's bus, the wait was just under 25', and the ride about 10-15' as it stops once more on the way. Check in was swift and pleasant, and the room as ready for us on arrival. Pleasant and very large room, with ample space for our 7 pieces of luggage and our double pushchair. The sofa bed was made very nicely and the cot was also prepared, there was even space for the children to move about very happily. Coffee and tea making facilities and extra towels and pillows were available. The bathroom was comfortable and found the pressure and temperature to be very good indeed.
We arrived late afternoon, and decided to have dinner in their restaurant, so took the lift down to the ground floor.
The restaurant is lovely, bright and wisely decorated, the bar staff courteous and polite. I ordered a meal for my toddler and shandys for us, we later had a meal too, all of which were nicely warm and tasty. The prices of the food and alcohol and very reasonable, and much lower compared to our local pub in London. The restaurant and bar became very busy after 7p.m. But the service remained good every time we went to order more stuff.
Check out was very swift and uncomplicated.

We booked a family room for the two of us, which was large - there was more than enough space to spread out, plenty of surfaces to place items on both in the bedroom and more crucially, in the bathroom, and even tea and coffee. The check in was fast, we discovered a family in residence in our first room but this was swiftly rectified and the receptionist was mortified at the mistake. The bed was comfortable with lovely bedding, the shower excellent, towels thick and plentiful, the room was quiet, well lit and clean – what more can you ask for £17. The room is certainly unusual, as there are no cupboards or wardrobes and only the tiniest niche to place an alarm clock – not even a bedside table. But who needs it? It’s an airport hotel after all.
I’m not sure the policy that food can be taken up to the room is a brilliant one – how long can the rooms stay as clean as they are now?
Request your hairdryer from reception on the way up. We couldn’t get the aircon to work, it was a little stuffy.
Breakfast was acceptable for £5.40. Tables were not cleared and were full of clutter.
All staff were polite, courteous and helpful.

A special mention must go to the shuttle bus drivers to and from the hotel who went the extra mile with help and advice to hundreds of weary travellers. I hope they never become jaded !

Would most definitely stay here again.

A 'courtesy bus' whisks you from the airport (£3 one way payable to the driver) to the hotel/motel, located amidst a number of other chain establishments on various compounds, each situated close to both South and North terminals. Having stayed in numerous Travelodges I have come to expect a 'lucky-dip' type experience ranging from the good to the bad to the downright ugly. Gatwick Central came as a welcome surprise...The decor was clean and fresh, the bed was comfortable and the on-site facilities were some of the best that I have experienced in any of the Travelodges that I have stayed in. A welcoming reception with genuinely pleasant and helpful staff, spacious bar and dining area, vending machines, complimentary chilled water, a bank of PC terminals and a shuttle bus-stop right outside the front door. I turned in early due to having to catch an early flight and was kept awake by fellow travellers (presumably booked on later flights) banging doors and having conversations in the corridor outside my room, which tended to let the whole experience down. However it was more than decent value for the price and has partly restored my faith in a hotel chain that has previously had its fair share of hits and misses.

We stayed here in April both when flying out and when coming back. The rooms were very comfortable if not a little bit chilly. Can't adjust the room temperature yourself but we made use of the extra bedding which had been left on the sofa. The food on offer was hot and they were very accomadating of allergies. However, the service was incredibly slow which was a tiny bit frustrating. The family near us were waiting for even longer then we were although the staff were very apologetic. We were able to have a very good night's sleep, especially grateful of that on the return journey after a number of hours travelling. The taxi to the airport can work out cheaper then the shuttle bus. All in all, a good stay both times.

This place is ok for 1 night stay if you want to be close to the airport for an early flight (especially if you are driving or taking a taxi). The shuttle bus from the airport is not regular.... I waited for over an hour at the airport and I watched other hotels efficient shuttle bus services do several trips back and forth before the travelodge bus came!

We stayed for one night before an early check-in the next day.

The hotel is the newer of the Travelodges at Gatwick and cleaner than the other! We took the free bus from the terminal out to the hotel... about a 5 min journey.

At check-in, none of the machines worked (they wouldn't print key cards) which resulted in big queues at reception, but it still didn't take us long.

Room was a bog-standard Travelodge room, but bigger than usual. All clean and tidy although my other half (who works as a plumber!) noticed issues with the bathroom - no retainer on the shower hose and no thermostatic valve on the bath/shower fixer... both apparently are government requirements. There was a lightbulb out too, but we weren't staying for long enough to have requested it be fixed.

Check-out was really quick... I don't think the lady even looked up!

All very easy and standard for a Travelodge.

Had a late flight back from our holiday so rather than travel home in the middle of the night we decided to book a cheap and cheerful room at the Travelodge just off Gatwick airport. Had to catch the shuttle bus from the South terminal which was £5 for 2 people - the hotel is literally just around the corner from the North terminal but unfortunately it is not suitable for walking in the middle of the night, perhaps during the day would not be so bad to navigate but you have to go down the A23 which is a main dual carriage way. The hotel itself was very pleasant, quick check in by the staff, rooms are very modern, have lovely lighting, bathroom very adequate, tea and coffee making facilities. Had a very comfortable stay, check out is at 12pm which is nice as didn't feel rushed to get up and out in the morning. Very quiet didn't hear anything in the night at all. Rooms are a nice size and even have a sofa. All in all a very nice 1 night stop over and really can't complain about anything for the money we paid!
