I have booked the Vulcan Lodge the first time almost 7 years ago for a friend. I went around all the b and b in Horley but after seeing this one there was no doubt about it. Karen is the most caring owner you can hope to find, and is always able to help with suggestions. After that time I have stayed at the Lodge quite frequently the location is great as it is at a short car ride from Gatwick and 5 minutes walk to the local train station, from there London and Brighton are less than 30 minutes away. Sometimes when Karen had no vacant rooms I had to settle for some other B and B around town, but nowhere else I have experienced the same quality of hospitality, never seen rooms so clean, cosy and attentively decorated...and never had such a great fry up!!!

I truly loved the Vulcan Lodge! Karen, the owner, is lovely, even if she can be very friendly she's never been nosy. She prepares a gorgeous breakfast, cooked (YES!!!!) or not... bread is fantastic, so even if you have only a toast it's going to be delicious! Rooms are quite wide and with bathroom and they're very cosy: the lovely furniture makes u feel home! The place is very silent and 10 minutes walk from the railway station. In 40 minutes u can be in the centre of London and in 5 minutes at Gatwick. Absolutely a lovely place!

We have stayed at Vulcan Lodge numerous times, most recently Feb. & March 2009,& have always been very pleased with our stay. The B&B is managed by the proprietor Karen Moon who is a delight to know. Nothing is too much trouble and being resident on the premises, she ensures the comfort&wellbeing of her guests. Vulcan Lodge is a beautiful house set back from the main road into Horley, only 7 minutes by taxi from LGW&a few minutes walk from the town with it's wide range of pubs and good quality eateries. Especially recommended are "Ye olde six bells" for atmosphere & good food & "The new raj" an excellent Indian restuarant.
The rooms are beautifully appointed with ensuite facilities, comfortable beds ,tv hairdryer etc. &complimentary tea & coffee, biscuits & mineral water. The price of £60 per room includes continental breakfast & full english is available by arrangement at a small extra cost - well worth it! There is ample parking space outside the guesthouse . We have stayed at other B&Bs in the area when Karen has had no vacancies but always come back to Vulcan Lodge. Highly recommended!

We were greeted at the front door and warmly welcomed. Our ensuite room was large, fresh and clean. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were starched and the towels were soft. The room had a flatscreen TV (with Sky) and everything ready to fix ourselves coffee or tea and biscuits. Breakfast choices were between a full English or an extensive self service breakfast. The period house is charming and spacious and very convenient for Gatwick airport as well as The M23. Karen has an excellent knowledge of the local area and contacts for almost anything you can imagine. Whether you want somewhere close to the airport before a trrip, or a base to stay for an extended visit - I can thoroughly recommend Vulcan Lodge!

My husband and took a train from London to Gatwick, staying at Vulcan Lodge for a couple of days. During our honeymoon trip to England and Italy, this is surely a lovely romantic B&B to be at. It's a wonderful home away from home, very clean and cosy rooms with all the amenities available to us. Karen and Colin were wonderfully hospitable and friendly the moment we arrived. We had also fallen in love with their two dogs and two cats!

Vulcan Lodge is not only a great place to stay at, it's also centrally located as a base to travel to other countries. We left for 9 days and flew back to the comfortable Vulcan Lodge for another few days before heading back to London to catch our flight to Malaysia.

I would defintiely recommend anyone who'd heading to Gatwick, or as a transit base to other European countries. It beats many hotels hands down on service, cleanliness, personality , friendliness and location.

We even got a chance to play the Playstation and Nintendo WII in the TV room! The Lodge is very cosy, decorated with various items Karen and Colin collected throughout their travels around the world. It's a home with a lot of unique character.

We will surely and most definitely be coming back here to Vulcan Lodge as often as our travel plans permit. I'm looking forward to going back for a visit soon!
